Pirates of the Caribbean is a great movie, of course, but even better when watched on a ship after a week at sea. You know it’s been a good day when you end it sticky with pine sap and roasted marshmallow; covered in scratches, bruises, and nettle stings; berry stained and with dirt under your nails; with twigs and bonfire smoke in your hair. Such is a normal day on the farm, and oh how I’ve missed it.

It snowed today! Finally - after a winter that’s been acting much more like spring, we woke to four inches towering on the porch railings, a backyard transformed, and yet more snow swirling through the air in blizzardlike gusts. I spent yesterday finishing Good Omens, and was decently sure all the way through which parts were Terry Pratchett’s and which belonged to Neil Gaiman. In reading the author’s notes afterwards, it turns out I’m exactly right…which only served to cement my dislike of Gaiman.
