Riza walked in to the cafeteria. She had seen it when she was still living in the outlander housing complex, so she knew where to find it. She spotted the little Xingese girl easily, her bright clothing and brighter energy a draw to the eye, as was her tiny black and white pet. The Elrics had called it a cat, but it looked more like a very very small bear to Riza. She hadn't really had time to ask the Mei that she had known what it was, considering the circumstances of their encounter, mostly the fact that Riza had been bleeding to death at the time.

"Mei Chan?" she called, just loudly enough to get the girl's attention but not so loud as to startle her. "It's Riza Hawkeye. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me." And she bowed slightly in greeting, still holding the silly gold box in her hands that she had brought as a gift for the little girl.

Mei was not so consumed with what she was doing that she was startled by the person to join her. She still had her reservations about someone new. She'd never had someone know her that she didn't know, unless they were asking for help, but she had already prepared herself for this and there was no reason for her to hesitate. Scar said she was okay... so she had to be.

Instead, she turned and bowed politely in return, Xiao-Mei clinging tightly to her shoulder so she didn't fall off her perch. The Xingese princess flashed the woman a small smile. "You know my name, but no one's told me yours. It's improper of me not to have asked you before now."

"It's Riza." She smiled. She had already shored herself up for this. She kenw she would find herself, once again, looking into a face she knew but did not know her. It would be a lie to say that she didn't feel a little confused and lost as the Xingese girl looked up at her with no recognition in her eyes, but she had already decided that she had had enough of being weak and storm-tossed in this place. Things were how they were and she would adapt. At least until a way was found to get back home ( ... )

The first thing were the chocolates. Mei graciously took them, eyes glittering happily. She had only expected an awkward meeting, where she'd explain she only knew her because of Scar and hoped that it hadn't bothered her too much when she wasn't particularly sure what she wanted or where she came from, but a gift would make things plenty easier, especially one so sweet and cute as this ( ... )

Riza was glad that she seemed to have made a right choice in her gift to Mei. She smiled at the little girl. Whatever Mei had been through in her life, it seemed she had not lost her childhood completely and Riza was warmly and inexplicably glad of it ( ... )
