As we all know, it is near impossible to survive without some sort of communication device. Fortunately, mobile phones, wireless computers, blackberries and the like are all functional within the Machine. The most important thing is that you can only call someone whose number you know. The machine is very clever; if you dial the right number, you'll get to the right person.
However, phone reception is split. While you are on the Plane, you will only be able to contact devices that are also on the Plane. While you are off the Plane, you will only be able to devices that are also off the Plane. In the second case, it doesn't matter what universe the person you're contacting is in; you can still reach them.
Several characters have voice mail posts up, where you can leave a message and from there do a phone thread. Other players have played out phone conversations in the logs community. Some do it over the course of a thread in a main community. What you choose to do is up to you!
