Part 2 of the recs list!
July 1- July 17
Title:
A Better ManPrompt: Sometime after the movie, Charles is captured and tortured by people who want to understand his power better. Erik hears second hand that he's missing, and drops his mutant supremacy crusade to go find/save him. Charles is pretty hurt, and Erik takes care of him (kind of opposite of Charles taking care of Erik in the movie) and thus learns to be the better man.
Title:
The Stranger at Xenophanes Hall ***
Prompt: Charles Xavier's sister/ward, Raven, is way past the suitable marrying age. Her independence and progressive ideals are massive turn offs for the gentlemen of the ton. Her only prospects are fortune hunters. Charles decides to invite unmarried, age-appropriate gentlemen to their country home for, let's say, fox hunting. He's hoping that one of these gentlemen is the right one for Raven.
Erik Lensherr is one of these gentlemen, and he would be perfect, if only he wasn't a fortune hunter as well. He's titled, but penniless. Charles does his best to keep him away from Raven, but in doing so, he finds that while Erik isn't perfect for Raven, he's actually perfect for Charles.
Bonus for Raven finding true love with Moira! Or Angel!
Title:
And a Blanket for the SkyPrompt: Let's get some old-fashioned h/c up in here. I want Erik collected and patient but just the tiniest bit worried as he cares for a dreadfully sick Charles. (Bonus points for delirious, half-conscious love confessions.)
Title:
They Say its GeneticPrompt: Instead of being mutants, they are vampires (except for Charles). Like in the True Blood verse, the scientists created artificial blood so the vampires came out of hiding. Charles is Sookie but a genius professor instead of a waitress who created the artificial blood. Raven is his overprotective vampire adoptive sister who Charles created it for. Erik is an extremely powerful vampire who seeks out Charles when he learns Shaw (a vampire bend on taking over the world) is interested in Charles.
Bonus: Charles end up housing the vampires that are in the resistance against Shaw.
Double Bonus: The resistance is called The Brotherhood but because of Erik's growing protectiveness (and love) of Charles;the members, behind Erik's back, teasingly refers to it as the X-men instead.
Title:
Control (or lack thereof)Prompt: Charles' life has always felt horribly out of control. He couldn't control his abusive home life and for a long time couldn't control his powers. One of the things he did to cope was strictly monitoring his diet, since that was one of the few things he could actually decide for himself.
Title:
OutlierPrompt: Because Erik was so young when he became the subject of terrible experiments, he had never had sex with anyone. His grief and rage and pain were so great after the war, and his obsession with finding his tormentor, that he didn't have sex with anyone. So, despite his apparent urbanity, he's actually a virgin when he and Charles meet. One other thing he's never done before either is fall in love.
Charles doesn't "see" everything about Erik, so he doesn't realize at first how inexperienced he is, fooled by his sophisticated, cool demeanor. Up to the writer how and when Charles figures it out, and up to the writer how experienced Charles is or is not (maybe he's a virgin also, because his mental powers made it so difficult to be with anyone -- but it's fine if he's experienced, that's awesome too).
tl;dr: Erik is a virgin to all things sexual/romantic. Charles is the first person he has any kind of sex with. Charles makes sure it's everything Erik deserves; sweet and hot and fun and loving.
Title:
holding tenderly to what remainsPrompt: Nuclear, biological and/or chemical warfare ended up ravaging the planet, before Erik and Charles ever met. Only some mutants -- along with a few humans -- survived. After quite a while of having to survive alone (or with others, author's choice), Erik and Charles meet, and find renewed hope in their growing relationship and the new society they decide to build.
Title:
Words Will Bring Us Together ***
Prompt: Post-First Class, Raven, Beast, Havok et al scheme to get Erik and Charles back together.
Title:
Five Times a Price Was Paid (And One Time It Was Paid Gladly) ***
Prompt: I've always thought that using mutant powers is too easy and that human - mutated, but still - body is far too endurable, considering the fact that it's almost constantly put under a lot of strain.
I want to see AU where there is an actual prize for using mutant powers. So, for example - you go ahead and use your telepathy, Xavier - but be aware of the fact that you're making that hematoma in your head bigger; feel free to scream, Sean - but know that you won't be able to TALK at the age of thirty etc.
How the X-world would change if such price for using mutant powers existed? And how would you try to stop your loved one from, well, killing himself..?
Title:
UntitledPrompt: Harry Potter fusion. Sorting, magic and EPIC ROMANCE!!! (especially because I could see both of them in all the houses...oh and Charles could like do an outreach programm for all the houses to improve communication and Erik would be annoyed but secretly impressed and together they'd be the unoffical rulers of Hogwarts and it would be AWESOMENESS)
Title:
Untitled Corgi Story ***
Prompt: It is now my headcanon that Charles lacks impulse control when it comes to buying things. So, one day, he goes shopping for something and comes across a guy who sells puppies. He stops to look (because...PUPPIES!) and overhears a stray thought about what will happen to those little critters if they are not bought. (Hint: Nothing good)
He immediately buys them all. All six of them.
Afterwards he feels kind of embarassed (he knows Erik will take one look at them and raise his eyebrow. He just knows, okay) but proceeds to bring them home with him and they are a huge hit. Not even Erik can stay cold when faced with eleven sets of puppy dog eyes and they are all adopted.
You may notice that this is kind of fluffy. Just smother me with sweetness, please.
Bonus points if the puppies are matchmakers (Erik/Charles, Hank/Alex).
Eternal love if they are Corgies.
Title:
Sharper Than Glass' EdgePrompt: Go for the movie plot with daemons, or something else completely different with daemons. I just want to see these guys with daemons. Like many others I'm partial to Erik/Charles, but gen is just fine, or throw in whatever takes your fancy.
Title:
Exclusive Preview ***
Prompt: So, many years after the events shown in the movie the world becomes much more mutant-friendly place. Both Professor X and Magneto are considered the founders of this better world and living legends, they're famous and immensely respected. And one day some producer decides to make a movie about their beginnings. The movie is called "X-Men: First Class".
Both Xavier and Erik know about the movie. They've read the script, talked to two leading actors (Michael and James) but don't really follow the whole process of making it. They're both busy people, using their knowledge as mutant rights experts (they still have their powers but they don't need to use them very often - at least not in fights etc). Their world view has become much more similar, but they aren't friends - there is too much bad blood between them, too many bad things happened, things that they cannot forget or forgive. They talk about each other with respect, sometimes even work together, but they aren't really close ---
--- And then they both get invitations for the movie premiere.
I want to see them both watching "X-Men: First Class" and having their memories brought back, remembering once again how they become friends and lovers. And - for the first time in many years - feeling that they really need each other, that their lives aren't full without their real love, that they've both tried to trick themselves - pretend that everything was fine, that they didn't need each other - to not get hurt again.
Bonus points for Xavier starting to cry at the premiere.
Double bonus points if Charles and/or Erik learn about James and Michael's relationship.
Notes: Just the premise hits so many of my story kinks, and the way the anon was writing it just trippled that. Hnngggg. ANON IF YOU ARE OUT THERE, I WOULD GIVE AN ARM AND A LEG AND MY FIRST BORN AND LIKE LIKE GRAPHICS AND STUFF IF YOU UPDATED. Out of all of the WIPs I fear abandoned, this is the one I personally want to see updated the most.
Title:
Now is the Winter of our DiscontentPrompt: For all that he is a telepath, Charles himself can't feel emotion properly. All that placidness? It's because feeling and hearing and knowing everyone else's pains and emotions, he convinced himself as a child that all those other people are more important, that his emotions have to take a back seat. His concern is THEM, not himself. Eventually, his own emotions are intellectual concepts and that's all. He can sense them from others, which is the closest he gets to feeling much of anything about anything. That's why he flirts with girls, why he sleeps around, why he tries to help: all of his pleasures are reflected, given to him by others.
Being with Erik is heaven and hell because of this; Erik's emotions are so strong, Charles gets mildly addicted to them. Pain, happiness, sorrow, pleasure, anger... he's never felt things like this, stronger, denser emotions and he revels in it even as he has no idea what to do with himself while he's feeling them.
Eventually, Erik discovers this and instead of being repulsed (though one would understand a bit of spaz on this), starts to teach Charles how to feel on his own. He pushes Charles, angers Charles, hurts Charles... you name it, Erik will do anything to help reanimate Charles's sense of self, makes him realize that he is ALLOWED to be angry, allowed to feel pain, allowed to feel pleasure to get through his mental blocks.
Title:
Restless, HelplessPrompt: On a mission (or lab accident) Alex ends up getting poisoned with no known cure. Poor Alex is stuck with a lot of pain and a high fever. In his delirium he keeps calling out for his two dads and it doesn't take the gang long to figure out who he means. Unable to calm him down alone, Charles seeks out Erik's help. And Erik is, of course, unable to deny a chance to see Charles help one of his kids (because he totally knows their his kids).
Title:
One HeadlightPrompt: Charles gets into an accident, i'm thinking hit by a car maybe, and is injured to the extent that he can't be moved until an ambulance arrives. Plus, he's trapped. His legs are pinned, and needs to be cut out by firefighters.
Erik, a stranger who happened to witness the collision, stays with Charles until help comes. Erik tries to keep him calm and conscious by asking lots of random questions, or telling little stories about himself.
What happens once Charles has been whisked away/is recovering, is up to you.
Title:
Numbered DaysPrompt: What if they didn't make it in time? What if Shaw actually did manage to explode before they could stop him? Global anti-mutant movement or sorta apocalyptic chaos? With Shaw trying to rule the world, other mutants like Wolverine might join Charles and Erik to stop him?
Title:
in servo necessitas Prompt: Charles is shaw's slave and he offers him to erik, or something?
Title:
AcademiaPrompt: Erik is the handsome literature/history/whateveryouchose teacher who everyone is a little afraid of. Senior year Charles is the brilliant and charming little bastard everyone can't help but love. Except, of course, for one Mr. Lensherr. Charles decides he must have him.
Bonus points for:
- uniforms
- Charles being a fierce!bottom
- Erik speaking in other languages
Title:
couldn't swallow, couldn't get to sleep ***
Prompt:From the film:
[as they all looking at Charles's family home]
Sean Cassidy: This is yours?
Charles Xavier: No. It's ours.
Erik Lehnsherr: [sarcastically] Honestly Charles, I don't know how you survived. Living in such hardship.
Raven: Well, it was a hardship softened by me.
In comic canon, Charles' childhood was a little less idyllic than the others seem to think. So, someone finds out something wasn't right, whether it's a blatant revelation or the uneasy sense that Something Just Wasn't Right in the Xavier household. Dramatic or subtle, one person or everyone, from psychic projection or something material - totally up to authoranon.
(Bonus for not overshadowing Erik's own past; there really isn't much that can compare to the Holocaust. This is more just for recognition that Charles, while certainly privileged in a lot of ways, really wasn't in others.)
Title:
One Step Ahead Of The Shoe Shine ***
Prompt: Okay, so. Charles and Erik are coworkers. Or one of them can be the boss in some big firm or something. Whichever works for you.
And Raven, Hank, Alex, etc, the whole crew, works with them as well. But everyone's sick of how oblivious they are.
So they plot through office e-mails for a way to get Erik and Charles together.
Title:
Grounds for Marriage ***
Prompt: In celebration of gay marriage being legalized in New York, I'd love Charles and Erik in a modern day AU. Specifically, I'd like it to be an AU where Erik's mom is alive and adorably overbearing, pushing Erik to 'make an honest man' out of Charles. Of course, Erik could always claim it wasn't legal before, but now...
Cue late night call after the signing from mom, who is full of ideas about the wedding, and Erik freaking out because he's never actually asked Charles about wanting to get married and is too awkward!shark to start now.
Whether they're mutants or not is up to authoranon, though I would like a more mundane AU where Erik has to deal with the daily grind of ordinary work, powers or no.
Thank you lovely authors!
Before July 1
Title:
The Children of an Idle BrainPrompt: For some reason, when Charles was young, his telepathy latched onto Erik's mind, linking them together. (What exactly happened and why is up to author anon.)
Basically, I want them both to be convinced that their best friend, the one that keeps them company when they're alone, afraid or hurt, particularly at night, is just an imaginary friend.
How long that lasts and whether the bond manages to survive to adulthood is also up to author anon.
The one thing I insist on is that their connection is a secret that no one but them knows about.
Title:
The Kids are AlrightPrompt: Erik/Charles single parent AU! Bonus points: Erik's the single dad with Wanda and Pietro.
Title:
it catches up to youPrompt: So we all know Charles met Raven as a kid. But what if after Alex's parents die and he thinks his brother is dead (or is dead even if you want to go that route), he runs into Erik, who knows what it's like to loose parents like that and decides to take the poor boy under his wing. How would this change things? Would Erik hate the world less? Would he have stayed with Charles? Would he be the world's biggest cock block to Alex (my guess is yes!)?
Title:
To Have and to Hold ***
Prompt: Assuming the events at the end of the movie didn't happen, Erik and Charles continued to be blissfully in love for years. They can't be legally married but maybe Raven suggests they have a marriage ceremony anyway. They wear rings, refer to each other as their husbands, and the marriage is recognized throughout the mutant community.
Title:
Til DeathPrompt: Um... can we get like betrothed princes or something? Maybe Something like the Marie Antoinette movie where Charles is the shy prince whom Eric must warm up to.
Powers or no, just some royal AU and arranged marriage?
Title:
PurgatoryPrompt: Post-movie. Erik thinks, after the thing with the sub and all that, that his issues with tapping into his full potential are solved!
But as time passes he finds it more and more difficult. He loses that tremendous strength he had on the beach.
Cue, idk, something where Erik realises that he needed Charles and that leads him back to him. They still have separate views and all that but they compromise to help the children. Or something. I just want them back together is that too much to ask?
Bonus points if he gets Emma to try helping him at first and it fails so bad it goes in the opposite direction.
Super bonus points if it's a few years later and Xavier's Academy is up and running.
Title:
The Lost BoysPrompt:I would like to see some bb!Nightcrawler! Maybe Uncle Erik teaches him German and tickles his little blue toes.
Maybe Raven invites Charles over to visit his nephew prompting a reunion with Erik, either slash or gen.
Can involve Mystique's relationship with his father (or mother) but it's up to you.
Title:
Friend Like MePrompt: So I dunno maybe the whole divorce scene ended differently but Erik still kind of left, but not really for good. Charles is all understanding that Erik has to 'find himself' or 'Work out his human hating issues' or whatever, and he promises that he won't force Erik to come back to him. He'll wait.
But Erik's new minions are fair game.
Cue Charles being sweet to Azazel and they are suddenly very buddy-buddy and hanging out all the time talking philosophy. Emma and Charles live a very similar life style and they often go to the same restaurants and operas and just happen to 'see' each other there. Riptide, who always kind of felt like the least powerful of the team, finds a kind and understanding friend who doesn't see him as another tool for power. Angel, seeking forgiveness, is accepted into Charles home with open arms. Raven, it's his sister of course she wants to see her brother but she's standing by Erik. Pretty much all of Erik's new friends are now hanging out with Charles, seduced by his kind smiles and generous heart, they badger Erik for being a horrible boyfriend and leaving poor Charles all his lonesome. Coming back to the lair talking about the cookies Charles made them and how he's always talking about Erik like the guy just stepped out for a cigarette, and really what kind of guy leaves a guy like Charles alone and not worry that someone else is going to snatch that up.
Of course Erik come home, he has to stop this madness unless Charles drives him crazy. Maybe some possessive, jealous sex to clear the air, and then a happy family breakfast in the morning with everyone to enjoy the reunion.
Title:
La Valse ***
Prompt: Erik and Charles are psychically bonded mysteriously and cannot be apart without physical/psychic pain. Erik starts hearing Charles's thoughts/feeling his emotions.
Title:
Charles Xavier and the Very Bad DayPrompt: Hogwarts AU. Because every fandom needs one! Houses are entirely up to the writer.
Title:
Go And Ask Your MotherPrompt: Five times Erik and Charles were parents. What it says on the tin. Erik and Charles being dads to the X-Kids. Giving advice (my kingdom for awkward dating advice re: Hank and Raven), encouraging them, etc etc.
Title:
adagioPrompt:Erik was right after all. The government begins openly persecuting and exterminating the mutants. After Charles loses everything he ever loved, he realises that Erik was right all along and joins him. Bonus points for angry, hurting Charles mindfucking people so sadistically that he scares even Erik sometimes.
Title:
GhostPrompt: Erik was right after all. The government begins openly persecuting and exterminating the mutants. After Charles loses everything he ever loved, he realises that Erik was right all along and joins him. Bonus points for angry, hurting Charles mindfucking people so sadistically that he scares even Erik sometimes.
Title:
together an oceanPrompt: All throughout the movie, Charles is helping everyone else--either in controlling their powers or accepting themselves or, hell, just letting them stay in his Mansion of Gigantic Hugeness. Obviously, they all appreciate how trusting and supportive he is.
(I find kind, helpful guys hot. But...I find kind, helpful whumped guys even hotter.)
So, can anon write a story (sometime before the end of the movie) wherein they're fighting some random baddies and they're mostly losing until the bad guys hurt Charles. Cue the entire team getting all "Oh, Hell, No!" protective and the curb stomping is EPIC.
Bonus McAwesome if Charles is surprised to find they care that much and actually has to reign some of them in (okay, Erik) before the city is demolished or something.
Title:
peel the scars from off my backPrompt: I'm not sure if this has been prompted yet, but how about the fandom favorite: a daemon AU.
This could be taken so many places. Does Banshee have a flying daemon that was ecstatic when her human gained the ability to fly (a bat, perhaps, given his sonar abilities)? Does Beast have a monkey daemon? Can Raven's daemon shift forms still, or are daemons unaffected by mutations? Do they turn up in other ways? i.e. weird coloring, having the same gender as their humans...
And for the love of all that is holy, someone please tell me what Erik and Charles' daemons would look like.
Can be gen, but if there is a pairing, please let it be Charles/Erik.
Title:
Like the sky fell on me Prompt:Charles is the king of England, Erik is the PM. Charles struggles with being a figurehead while Erik struggles with the nitty-gritty of knock down, drag out politics. The kids are around the royal home: Alex is head of security at Buckingham Palace, Hank is Charles's personal doctor, Raven is Charles's ward. Shaw runs against Erik for the office of PM, loses, and has it out for Erik (cue assassination attempts, etc). Meanwhile Charles and Erik somehow fall in love, and in the end, one of them has to step down from their position to pursue their romance.
Bonus points if Charles has a pack of corgis that are too adorable for words.
Title:
Feelin' GroovyPrompt: 5 times Charles is affected by other people's emotions. At this point in his life, Charles obviously isn't completely in control of his powers yet. Surely really strong emotions must affect him at least a little. So: 5 times Charles is affected by other people's emotions, and 1 time the emotion is all his own.
Make it as funny, angsty, or smutty as you like. Seriously -- he lives in a house full of angst-ridden, hormonal teenagers! His bf(f) is full of epic manpain! He visits strip clubs full of lust-addled skeezes! THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.
Title:
it kicks like a sleep twitchPrompt: Can be AU (set in the Firefly universe) or set after the events of First Class. This secret organization manages to capture Charles and use him for severe experimentations and try to turn him into a weapon. Erik and the other mutants are eventually able to save Charles, but his mind is severely damaged because he discovered a horrible secret about the organization through his telepathy.
Of course, the organization is going to try and get Charles back, and Erik tries to protect Charles while restoring his sanity and exposing the organization to the world.
Make it Charles/Erik. I don't really care if it's established relationship or if they become a couple during the fic.
Bonus points: If Charles says at one point "I can kill you with my brain".
Title:
no power in the 'versePrompt: Can be AU (set in the Firefly universe) or set after the events of First Class.
Title:
a loneliness i can't imaginePrompt: Cerebro malfunctions the first time Charles is hooked into it, and it causes him to freak the hell out and then go catatonic. While waiting for Charles to wake up, Erik is quick to anger and closes himself off from everyone because, for whatever reason, he feels partially responsible for letting it happen (he let him do it in the first place, he didn't use his ability to shut down the machine fast enough, take your pick). If/when Charles wakes up, Erik doesn't make any shmoopy declarations of love; Charles can only tell how worried he really was by reading his mind.
Because I'm a sadist, bonus points if part of the reason Charles goes all Blue Screen of Death is because he is feeling the pain of every single person his mind is touching all at the same time at it overwhelms him. Pain in both little innocent ways (papercuts, twisted ankles) and horrifically twisted and violent ways (torture, rape, etc).
Title:
UntitledPrompt: Supernatural AU. They're hunters, and Erik has an enormous vendetta against some supernatural force (a la the Yellow-eyed Demon) and is messing with powers he probably shouldn't be in pursuit of vengeance. Charles is a psychic? some dude? who has decided that Erik needs to be tagged along after to stop his spiral of self-destruction. THEY FALL IN LOVE.
Title:
ProtectorPrompt: Throughout the movie, Shaw has not actually met Charles face to face which I thought was very interesting. What would've happened if he did? What would've happened if Shaw broke into the facility and Charles was there?
Emma was still the only one who went to Russia for whatever reason and events transpired as they did. Shaw is now down a telepath and goes looking for a replacement the men responsible after he finds out that Emma's been 'indisposed'.).Shaw see's the face of the man who's mucking about in his business twice now and he see's how Erik steps in front of the man like a shield. He smiles his creeper smile and decides to hit two birds with one stone. Que EPIC BATTLE, but Erik is still too young and too angry to focus, and he's easily immobilized. Shaw then throws Charles around, forcing Erik to watch as he beats down on an essentially helpless man.
He leaves, dragging a bloody and broken Charles with him, challenging Erik to find him.
Bonus points if Mystique is royally pissed and she develops many of her kick-ass skills we see in the first movies while helping Erik find her brother.
Title:
maybe i'm a different breed Prompt: Aside from Raven, Charles always thought he was alone. Until he meets Erik. Together, they find other werewolves and form a pack.
Title:
A Characteristic of a Normal Child (Is That He Doesn't Act that Way Often)Prompt: What if, in FC verse where they grew up together, instead of leaving her son to be raised by Azazel's gypsy associates, Raven gives her baby to Charles instead? Obviously the Brotherhood is no place to raise a child, but the mansion/school (while not ideal, necessarily) is a pretty good one, with lots of other mutants to help out and be accepting, and Charles loves his tiny blue nephew to pieces.
I'm mostly looking for some post-beach simultaneous school running/single parenting!Charles, with help from the other young staff, although if you want to include Raven dropping in to see her son and bonding/reconciling with her brother a bit, that would be wonderful too.
Title:
IdentificationPrompt: It's been a year or two from the beach scene and Charles has disappeared. Erik creates a team to go find him but end up searching for a long time and finding nothing but all of a sudden, the government has gotten a hell of a lot better at finding mutants and no one is safe anymore.
EVENTUALLY Erik and the team end up finding Charles completely by accident in a government facility hooked up all project 'JENOVA' style(but less intestines all over the place)(from final fantasy 7), queue the "holy mother of god" and extreme Erik rampage scenario :D
http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/e/e1/Jenova_Tank.jpghttp://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/130/558828-ffviiac_jenova_super.jpg here are visuals that I couldn't put into words.
I PROFUSELY APOLOGIZE FOR THE LONG PROMPT
Title:
UntitledPrompt: Erik, to borrow an American phrase, has far more than just three strikes against him, and, when he stops to think about it, is tempted to thank a God he no longer believes in that he was first too young and then too weak/hurt/traumatized to realize that, on top of being a Jew and a mutant and a political dissident and . . . (well, the list goes on) other certain undesirable qualities, he's homosexual, as well, while still in the camps. It's a not so very minor miracle that he survived the camps and Herr Doktor. He's seen with his own eyes and personally suffered many of the worst depravities that human beings are capable of inflicting upon those they perceive as different, as subhuman, as Other than they. He knows, rationally, that good people exist, as well as evil ones, but he's never been tempted to believe that the good might outweigh the bad or to long to be a part of something greater than himself (his own need for vengeance against his monstrous 'creator,' Dr. Klaus Schmidt) . . . until Charles, that is.
Now, Charles Xavier may seem an eternal optimist, but the truth is that he has also seen and intimately experienced both the depths to which human beings are capable of sinking and the occasional heights to which the human spirit can sometimes be inspired to yearn after achieving. He hopes for the best, always, when meeting others (when interacting with humans), because he has always believed that even one man and one single act of kindness can be all that it might take to tip the scales irrevocably towards inspiration to true greatness of being . . . and because to do otherwise would be to give in to the despair that's always clawing at the back of his mind, reinforced by every cruel thought, every spiteful wish, every foul deed, every evil desire, that his gift inescapably brings to his attention. His whole life, he's clung to optimism, because he knows that to do otherwise would be to invite despair and, he fears, court disaster, for if there is no higher morality to be had in the world, then what might he, with his gifts, do, with no ethical reason to stop or hold back? Erik terrifies him and fascinates him in equal measure, because never before has he met someone whose personal experiences of the darkness of humanity come so close to matching the depths of his own knowledge and (mental) experience . . . and never before has he been so tempted to accept all of that knowledge within himself (all that Erik is) without trying to find some way to balance it out, lessen that pain, lighten that darkness.
So basically, in case y'all can't tell, what I want is a serious AU attempt where these two men do their damnedest to make things work, where there's no all too easy parting of ways on a beach because of irreconcilable differences of ideological opinion. I want them to actually love each other so much that they're willing to fight for each other. I want them to try to make it work. I want them to literally fight one another to make it work, because neither one has ever been so much as tempted to open up so much to another being or wanted so much to be able to share all that he is with another person and neither one is willing to give that up, once they've dared to admit their feelings to one another. So. Charles refuses to let Erik hide behind his easy excuses of pain and hatred. Erik refuses to let Charles hide behind his well-worn masks of optimism and good cheer. The beat the crap out of each other, emotionally and maybe even physically, trying to come to some kind of compromise, because they can't bear to ever let each other go, now that they've found one another.
What I want is both men refusing to ever let go, no matter what it might mean for them or anyone else.
Title:
True Power is the Balance Between Rage and SerenityPrompt: There's a lot of prompts about Charles deciding to join Erik and Erik deciding to join Charles. However, one of the coolest things about those two is that they actually understand that they are different and have different agendas, and manage to respect that... sort of. They got this very well at the ending of the movie.
Since I want a happy-end for those two before they are both eighty and bitter, I have a different idea - I want to see them having to solve some problem together (I think something like that happened in every version of the X-Men timeline), and if they could work out some differences, and stop persuading one another to change the tactics and ideals, they can actually form a single organisation with two wings. There'd still be the Brotherhood, for those, who are more suitable for it (like Mystique) and for military operations, and there is the X-Men, where those who need an absolutely different approach go, where research is carried out and so forth.
That could work rather soon after the movie events - after all, the governments are not pleased with the mutants. Erik would be able to help Charles, since he's much more adapted to actual fighting - it seems he spent 16 years training for that. Charles is much better at educating others and helping them resolve their issues (not everyone gets better by being pushed off the cliff...), and they both eventually understand that to survive they have to join forces while still remaining what they are, even if they don't always understand each other's ideas or approve of them.
Slash is not exactly necessary, but I certainly don't mind.
