I'm 28 weeks pregnant and my first OB discontinued my care because I told them I wanted a home waterbirth, that care was discontinued 10 weeks ago.

That's a problem for me because I never saw myself giving birth in a hospital. Every time I watched women giving birth in hospitals (TLC, Discovery Channel, etc...), my gut told me they were doing it wrong, that it wasn't for me. If you met the risk criteria and cost was not an issue, would you chose a free standing birth center birth with midwives or a hospital if a birth center were available?  Why or why not?  I guess in theory you could assume home birth/uc is not a feasible option, but because the hb rates around here are so low that I am primarily concerned with birth ( Read more... )

So it looks like we're going to have a surprise. Had an ultrasound earlier this week at the 22 week mark and the little one was legs closed the entire time. Everything is all good which is most important. Due date is now Jan 11 (from u/s) instead of Jan 4 (from LMP ( Read more... )

Had my 36-week appointment today, and finally got around to asking my midwife if it would be okay for my hubby to be the one to cut the cord at birth (he and I have talked about it and haven't really arrived at a definite decision yet; we just wanted to know in advance if it would be okay in case he decides he wants to do it). We've elected to simply stay with my current midwives, instead of switching to the ones that would do homebirth/water birth. Yes, it would be wonderful, but it would also cost money, whereas my current midwives accept Medicaid. It's been a difficult decision, but we feel that this is just the best route right now ( Read more... )
