Today was a big day for J dog. We went for a walk and encountered a man wearing a hat and mowing his lawn. Not only did J not freak out as he used to, he walked right on by with head and tail held high, and remained so for the whole walk. Jackson went on his first trip to Huntington Beach Dog Beach this morning and had a very good time! He ran around after Emma, played with other dogs, sniffed a few humans, pooped on sand, got to sniff a very dead seagull, and while he's not swimming yet, he did some serious wading in the Pacific. Jackson is bigger and happier than ever. Regular trips to puppy school and the dog park are yielding slow but good results. Probably because of Emma, he really likes little dogs. With the larger, more dominate ones he completely wusses out, putting his tail down and slinking away. When the crowd is less pushy, though, he mingles in with the pack, ( Read more... )

We've made some wonderful progress with Jackson, who's now 5 months old. He now walks nicely on a leash and goes for walks, shows little shyness except for people we meet, and lawnmowers. I've been using a Gentle Leader on him, which Doug calls "the lobotomizer", and it really helps ( Read more... )

Jackson had another round of puppy shots today. (Benadryl prevented another bad reaction) At 13 weeks he weighs in at 31.3 lbs, about double of when we adopted him in December.

A few days after we got Jackson he brought in an uprooted lady slipper plant I'd planted experimentally in the back flower bed. So much for that experiment. Then he brought in a pine cone and chewed it up all over the rug. Then he brought me an uprooted bulb from one of my canna lilies.
