I've been really busy all week, leading projects. It's the kind of thing I think about from when I get up in the morning until I'm too tired to think about anything, including uploading photos or keeping up with LJ. But I'll catch up with those things in due course.

Iquitos turns out to be the biggest city in the world, at least out of those not reachable by road. There certainly are vehicles here (mostly taxi things that look like two motorcycles strapped together with a buggy on top... I've forgotten what they're called) but presumably they came down (or up) the Amazon by boat... like pretty much everything ( Read more... )

I've really enjoyed my stay so far at Pisco sin Fronteras, and the first day at work felt really good. I'll post about that when I manage to get photos uploaded (small town + developing country = slow, dodgy connections), but let's just say that it totally makes sense why people stay here much longer than they intended to, and so many come back.

The other day I wrote that it looked like there wasn't any poverty within miles of the suburb of Lima I was staying in. It looks like the correct distance is about 12km.

The driver I mentioned in my previous entry was pleased to hear that I was in Peru to do humanitarian work. (It took a lot of Spanglish and improvised sign language to explain it to him!)
