A monk. In Manhattan.

A twelve year old orphan mutant monk. In Manhattan. That may or may not be linked with the Young Avengers.

The hell?Julian was having a hard time trying to wrap his mind around this. And around the fact that he was apparently supposed to find the kid and bring him back to the school. At least, that's what he thought Miss ( Read more... )

Julian didn't miss the look that Cessily gave him, and he paused in his stride until she caught up to him. He put his hand on her arm to stop her.

They needed to have a quick talk.

"A word..."

She crossed her arms over her chest. Her tone was low, but... annoyed.

"Is this where you tell me that you're the leader and I should follow you no matter what, even if your ideas are going to cause an easily avoidable conflict?"

His voice was just as low, but even more annoyed, and maybe (just maybe) a little hurt.

"Yes, this is that part." He glanced around, they didn't have a whole lot of time so he cut to the chase.

"Look, I know I can be an ass sometimes, but out of everyone on this team, I need you to trust me out in the field, no matter what."

"You also need someone, on occasion, to question you," she challanged. "This wasn't a combat situation- as much as it almost was one. There was no need to go as far as we did and piss the Young Avengers off by making them think we kidnapped their... ward, for lack of a better word. We could have stayed in public view, where a fight would have been less likely, and they wouldn't have panicked. I trust you and your orders most of the time. I know that when lives are on the line, I can follow you no matter what. But with the little things like this, you try too hard to prove yourself right instead of stopping to think about anyone else. Sometimes, Julian, I think you want to make people angry with you."

Santo still has bits of paper hanging from his craggy lower lip as he makes his way toward the comm signal broadcasting from Hellion. The search for this Golden Child tree-huggin' monk kid had made him a little hungry after awhile, so he'd figured four or five pretzels from the sidewalk vendor a few blocks down couldn't hurt. But the call came so now he's barreling his way down the sidewalks and now...

Now his eyes are narrowing on the group of kids barely leaving an alley where the signal beacons, but he doesn't see Julian or Cessily among them. And that's his cue to pick up the speed until he's barreling right toward them!

Brian rounded the side of the nearest building just in time to see Santo literally barreling towards the group. He was surprised, a bit, but at least he could be assured that he was at the right place. Despite his feelings of uselessness in fights, he picked up the speed and ran towards the alley-way himself. "Santo! Hold up!" He would've like to approach more slowly, until he at least knew a bit more of what was going on. However, that didn't look like an option.

Things had settled. Had being the operative word. Now some bruiser was barreling towards them.

Goddammit, Julian! And they say MY people are out of control!

One blunt head arrow to the forehead coming right up.

"Hey!" Well it looked like Kate was taking care of the stone one so she'd deal with the other. One giant size hand reached down to pluck the guy off the ground.

Catseye had been staying out of the scuffle, more or less, but the sight of the gold-skinned boy plummeting down on to Kate sends her springing forward with an outraged snarl. A predator knows killing and what Catseye sees is an attempt to break her friend's neck.

It's a good thing that Elixer can heal. When Catseye aims to tear him off of Kate, she's using fangs that can crack bone and claws that can rend kevlar without any thought of restraint.

There's a bright blue flash of light, and suddenly Asgardian, Hulkling and Speed are all standing in the alleyway as well.

"I told you. Locator spell and a teleport. So not difficult. And oh look, seems we've arrived just in time for a fight--Catseye, no!"

Nordic runes flick from an extended hand and Catseye turns intangible just long enough to go right through Elixir without killing him.

"Speed, see to her. And no killing, either of you."

Santo sees Archer Girl is occupied now with a malicious smirk, but it quickly fades as the other kid- and suddenly a big ASS CAT- enter the fray. All he can do is yell a warning off, before either possibly connect.

"Foley, watch your back!"

Aww, screw this!- He undelicately tugs the arrow out and tosses it away. His forearm might be temporarily useless, but the rest of him isn't. He charges toward Catseye in a full defensive body tackle that'd make Vince Lombardi proud, not registering yet the other new arrivals in the alleyway.

This was starting to get out of hand. Time to start putting an end to things.

The garbage can lid that was thrown at Elixir is sent careening back towards Eli. "What happened to the shield; don't tell me you pawned it already." His tone was anything but jovial, and grew even more serious with his next comment.

"Order your team to stand down now, before someone else gets hurt."

Eli has a lot of anger and stubbornness in general that he uses as a focus. Still, Billy's spell gets through. He looks up at his floating counterpart being entangled by a very large purple cat.

"Again, I ask." He reaches up a hand. his tone fairly neutral. "Are. We. Done. Yet?" A beat. "Otherwise, I'm completely good with letting someone shield us while we handle this one on one."

Julian had been staring at Catseye for a moment, since neither name he mentioned seemed to have any sort of recognition to her. It made him wonder how she came back, and if she remember anything from her life before she died.

And, of course, Eli would have to open up his mouth again. Despite having Santo crowd him from one side and a giant purple cat-like person draped on him, Julian still somehow managed to look haughty. He's skilled like that.

"You're free to leave anytime you want. Our business consists of having a word with the mini-monk, and he insisted we have a word with Danny as well." He set himself and Santo down, but still held on to Catseye for the moment. He waved a hand dismissively. "Frankly, the rest of you are butting in on something that's none of your damn business to begin with."

Eli laughs. I mean really busts up laughing. Like "can't breathe," laughter.

She glances to Eli and blinks.

...he got knocked on the head...

She picks her way through to Eli, turning a cold look back to Julian.

"Go home, Julian. Danny's ours and Ang's with him. Besides..." she winces a little bit as something twinges between her shoulder blades, "I seriously doubt you've proven to a pacifist that you're the people to hang with."

Ang continues to struggle.

"I have to - stop them from hurting each other! I -"

The noise of the battle has died down, but Ang is still distressed.

"They're fighting over me? Why are they fighting over me? I don't want to be fought over!"

Danny's upset, and that upsets Ang even more.

This is all so wrong. All this fighting and anger and people using him as an excuse to fight, and trying to make him do things with his life that he hasn't decided are good to do yet.

There's too much anger. And all Ang wants to do his help people.

Even people who don't know they need it.

"Let me go, please. I have to help them now."
