A monk. In Manhattan.

A twelve year old orphan mutant monk. In Manhattan. That may or may not be linked with the Young Avengers.

The hell?Julian was having a hard time trying to wrap his mind around this. And around the fact that he was apparently supposed to find the kid and bring him back to the school. At least, that's what he thought Miss ( Read more... )

Ang continues to struggle.

"I have to - stop them from hurting each other! I -"

The noise of the battle has died down, but Ang is still distressed.

"They're fighting over me? Why are they fighting over me? I don't want to be fought over!"

Danny's upset, and that upsets Ang even more.

This is all so wrong. All this fighting and anger and people using him as an excuse to fight, and trying to make him do things with his life that he hasn't decided are good to do yet.

There's too much anger. And all Ang wants to do his help people.

Even people who don't know they need it.

"Let me go, please. I have to help them now."

There's a wall in the way, but walls look a little different when you're an aerokinetic.

Ang jumps up into the air - five, ten, fifteen feet - and floats over it, landing in a crouch on the other side, fairly close to the center of what used to be the fight.

He stands up, and his face is set in a determined and disapproving frown. Anger looks foreign on Ang's face, but it's there.

"I am here. You will NOT fight over me."

Julian was about to take off to look for Pixie, Danny, and Ang but apparently decided to come back. He headed over to Ang, barely regarding Danny's presence.

"I think the fighting is done for the moment, squirt. So long as Eli keeps his mouth shut for a while, it might actually stay that way." There was a smirk there, but it lacked the usual superior edge that was usually there.

"I need to talk to you for a minute, kid."

Ang doesn't smile. Instead, he begins digging through the folds of his robes, until he comes across whatt he's looking for and pulls out a photograph.

The edges are worn, and slightly frayed, and some of the corners are bent, from being carried around in pockets and very often pulled out and looked at. Ang holds it out to Julian with his face still serious and disapproving.

"Danny say you want me to make choice. Here is my choice - this is where I go. Danny find me family, and I decide to go with them. They know mutants, and they are Buddhist too. I go with them, and then maybe I go to school. Maybe I go to yours, but I not be of much use to you. I will not fight. Ever."

Julian shook his head. "No one is asking you to fight."

He paused for a moment, then squatted so he was more or less eye level with Ang.

"Kid, here's the deal." He paused for a moment, thinking. "Ask anyone about me, they'll probably tell you that I'm a jerk, or maybe they'll use a more colorful word. For the most part they'd be right too, and you think that'd make me the worst person to represent Xavier's. But here's the thing, I don't know if they're entirely right about me or not.

"Maybe, at the end of the say, I'm nothing more than a racist and an elitist; the next Magneto in the making and I'll leave ten bucks on top of Eli's dead body. Or maybe I'm the hero I believe I am, and I just act like a jerk." He shrugged. "I don't know. You know how you said you were on a spiritual journey? I guess I'm on mine, and Xavier's is where mine has taken me, and where I think it should take you ( ... )

He stood up to face Danny.

"Don't put words in my mouth, and you don't speak for him. You're not his father. He may have been considering Xavier's, but he hadn't actually talked to anyone from the school about the place, had he?" There was an eyebrow raise. "And if you paid any attention, you'd have noticed that I just let him know what one of his options is and I'm willing to answer any questions he has about it while I'm here. The only decision I asked him to make was whether or not he wanted to listen to what I had to say, to which he agreed, so long as you were present. But whatever he decides, at least now he'd be making an informed decision, which was the whole point of this to begin with." He growled something under his breath. He was getting agitated with these kids ( ... )

Julian rolled his eyes, but sighed. Even he had a limit on pointless conflict. "Yeah, well, whatever. I figured it would be safer to get him alone. How the hell was I supposed to know you weren't sicko perv?" Which he's still not entirely convinced about, actually. "I mean, who else would just take in a stray, innocent twelve year old and not bother reporting it to the authorities?"

Okay, maybe he had a bit more pointless conflict left in him.

Once Billy's spells had stopped Cassie ran as far away from Tag as possible. Then, after his power over her had worn off, she came back in time to be there for Ang to show up.

She walked up to Danny and laid a hand on his shoulder, because while she was really aggravated and pissed off she had just sprinted back and forth a couple of blocks and was sick of fighting.

"Can we all just shut up please? Ang made his choice sitting here yelling at each other isn't helping. I want to get home and crash."

Ang's getting a little tired of everyone thinking that he can't determine where he wants to go for himself. He heaves a sigh that sends paper gusting down the alley.

"You all wrong! I not need you take care of me." Ang looks sternly from Danny to Julian. "I take care of self long time, since Monk Gyo Shin go to his next life. He was take-care-of, and now I am take-care-of myself. I walk a long way, and I meet many people, and some of them not have good karma when they go on to their next lives, so I not stay. I not stay with Danny if he sicko perv. "

It's anyone's guess as to who taught him that phrase.

"I not something for you to fight over, because I decide what I do for myself." The little monk isn't yelling, because even now that he's out of the monastery, the indoor-voice rule is engrained into his consciousness, but breezes are gusting around him as he waves his hands in frustration.

"I not the Buddha shoe!"
