Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and responses. My mother is hanging in there but it's not looking good. Her kidneys are failing and she's not tolerating dialysis, she had some arrythmias last night, she has 4 infections (fungal meningitis, pneumonia, actinomyces - which is an antibiotic-resistant infection, and septis). Invasion of the Body Snatchers
I am starting to feel like I'm in the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers, or else an episode of The Twilight Zone. My mother had a splenectomy (removal of spleen) last Tuesday. By Friday we knew there were no signs of cancer in it (yay). They were then thinking TB (tuberculosis) and she's been in isolation for it ever since. She has fluid around ( Read more... ) -

Finally, cancer is now ruled out definitively. That's the good news.
The bad news is that we still don't know what's wrong. They're now thinking cryptococcosis - a fungal infection. According to Wikipedia it can be caught when pigeon droppings are stirred up and inhaled - yuck. But given that she lives in the metro NYC area, not far fetched, I ( Read more... ) -

My mother's lymph node biopsy was negative, which is great news. But in a way we are now back to square one. She does have an appointment today for a second opinion so we'll see where that goes. The sticking point is why does she have lytic lesions which showed up as malignant (on one of the tests, I can't remember if it was the CAT scan, the PET ( Read more... ) -

1. After living here for a month and a half, my side of the garage is now almost completely empty. Just one other thing to move to Dave’s side. (We realized that despite the house having a two-car garage, only one side can be used because the bathroom the previous owners added to the basement prevents a car from fitting on Dave’s side. Oddly, for me, there is not. Despite the numbers of books we read, I think maybe because we have SO many books, we read such a variety that I can not recite any from memory. There's never been one that ( Read more... )
