Are there any children's books that you can recite verbatim?

Oddly, for me, there is not. Despite the numbers of books we read, I think maybe because we have SO many books, we read such a variety that I can not recite any from memory. There's never been one that ( Read more... )

I can come close to it with Where the Wild Things Are. He was more into it last year so I'm a bit out of practice now

Exactly - "out of practice" is how I feel, too. Back in the day I could have recited some verbatim I'm sure, just not any longer....

We have a pretty extensive library, but we do have several that we read constantly: Green Eggs and Ham, Jamberry, Pinkalicious, Goodnight Moon, Love You Forever, hmm.... I know there are more.

I guess there just aren't any that we read regularly right now, for whatever reason. I'm sure there have been times in the past I could have recited verbatim, but not for a while now....

Oh lordy, definitely! Connor always wants to read a lot of the same books over and over again. I can't think of any off hand though, but I know if I saw a few on the shelf, I could start reciting them without looking! lol. And def. a lot of the baby type ones- Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear, a few others that Drew and Connor both loved- I'll Teach my Dog a Lot of Words, Trucks, Trains, Planes (all same series)... lol.

Yeah, except for Brown Bear she never got really into the classic baby type ones. The only one I could think of possibly being able to recite offhand was Chicka Chicka, as Lauren below said....

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is the only one I think MAYBE I could recite from memory - though we haven't read it in a while....

It was my youngest sister's favorite book and I remember reading it to her. Now it's James' and we read it every single night.

Mr. Brown can moo can you? is one of my favorites. I love that one!

Mnemonics they're called - but I didn't know that in college either. I only know it from editing "study skills" textbooks for years!
