This is the final weekend of the Didsbury Arts Festival, so today we had ( a PIG in front of the Library )

Today was the first day of Metrolink's scheduled passenger service from East Didsbury! Starting at 5.49 a.m.

Just heard that, as part of Heritage Open Days this weekend, Gorton Monastery will be hosting Gorton Visual Arts' project "Chaos" which they describe as "a contemporary visual representation of Peterloo... The collective pieces of casted plaster sculpture use present day personal carried items which may be dropped and lost during an event of Chaos ( Read more... )

And today was the climax of this year's commemoration of the Peterloo Massacre. For the past few years, the Peterloo Memorial Campaign has arranged a rally on the nearest Sunday to the anniversary, at the massacre site, in front of Manchester Central (the old Central Station, now a conference and exhibition centre, and in the last couple of years ( Read more... )

Today is the actual anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, so we had the wreath-laying ceremony - or ceremonies, as the council did one at 11 a.m. and the Peterloo Memorial Campaign at 1 p.m. (we'd already organised ours before we heard about the council timing and couldn't change it because we'd told too many people). We staged the first event of this year's Peterloo commemoration on Wednesday night at Petersfield, the site of the massacre, in front of what is now Manchester Central. We raised our own 15-foot home-made monument, a giant illuminated Liberty Cap, to bathe the pavement in the light of liberty. Liberty Caps were a Radical symbol, and they were ( Read more... )
