PIG at the Library, Jackie at Emmanuel

Jun 29, 2013 18:30

This is the final weekend of the Didsbury Arts Festival, so today we had a PIG in front of the Library. Apparently the PIG is from Whalley Range but has recently toured Seoul and Miami.

Here is the PIG, gently slumbering. Her body rises and falls as she sleeps, and occasionally she snuffles.

From time to time, Piglets with curly tails queue up to watch a performance inside the PIG. I didn't manage to do this so can't tell you what it was like.

She also allows children to stroke her snout.

What I actually went to see was Jackie Kay reading poems and extracts from her autobiography and short stories, at the church where I was christened, just round the corner from the library; she was very good, but I didn't take her photo, so you will just have to imagine her looking a bit like this picture but wearing lime green with brown spots, plus glasses.

Tomorrow I am going to hear Simon Armitage, and possibly go on a tour of the Sephardic synagogue.
