So this one got a little babbley, oh well.
Day 18: Most annoying character that tried to come between a ship
I’ve thought round and round on this one quite a bit. The phrasing of it just makes me want to come at it sideways for some reason. Basically thought process goes like this:
-Okay, so there has to be a ship that’s together.
-There has to be someone that tries to come between them
-I have to find that character annoying but not necessarily the people involved in the ship.
-All this boils down to, probably not a love triangle situation. Because in a lot of triangles I’m rooting for the underdog player or at least have a lot of sympathy for the underdog player. Most of the participants I find annoying are the ones in the big ship that just won’t break up for some reason even though they’re awful for each other.
-Therefore the people who are really annoying are the writers for coming between my pairing. Either by focusing on a ship I don’t like, being unwilling to put the “right” couple together, or just writing everything badly so I find things annoying that maybe I shouldn’t. Or it’s Moffat (and to a lesser extent RTD).
-Well, I suppose we could be talking a one episode type character because Reinette is pretty annoying, but that doesn’t quite feel right.
-Besides, I think the character for this has to be actively trying to come between an established ship, that just feels like the right thing for me to focus on.
-So okay, an annoyance who tried to come between a pairing I liked; not necessarily a romantic rival, but tried to keep a ship apart.
And where that lead me to was:
This racist douche tried to split up Delenn and John. I’m even giving him the nod over all the human racist douches who made a stink about it because the goal from Earth was less about splitting them up and about undermining their (but mostly John’s) support back home. Which yeah, is kind of worse in the grand scheme of things, that human racism is such a thing that Clark and co.’s case is so easy to push just by being all “look, the guy’s clearly not right in the head, after all he thinks he’s in love with a Minbari,” whether the people spouting those ideas even agreed with it or not, it was believed the people would. But like I said, Callenn and the Minbari douches were actually gunning for breaking them up because they could not accept a Minbari loving a non-Minbari and sincerely believed she could not honestly do so and they knew better what as good for her.
Racism is super annoying isn’t it?
