Day 9: Your least favorite couple
You all might think I’m going to go on a rant about the TVD couples I hate, because there are several I really dislike in that verse. But no, for all the ways I get pissed off at TVD’s shipping choices nothing can compare with how much I, to this day, hate Buffy/Spike.
I haven’t even watched any of the relevant seasons on BtVS in years now, but my hatred for this ship still burs like a burning thing. I’ve never been able to watch James Marsters in any other role without wanting to punch his face in because of how much I hate this ship, and I really do try not to hold roles against actors, this is just a BIG exception because I hate his stupid face that much.
Mostly it comes from hating Spike’s development and prominence in the last few seasons of the show, for my money he should have died in s2 and saved us all the trouble; even if Lovers’ Walk was ok and *some* of his s4 stuff was alright, Spike being dead after s2 would have been for the best. But for all the hate I have for Spike as a character, and there’s a lot of it, I can sort of enjoy shipping him with other characters, Dru and Angel mostly and on occasion Dawn; but when it comes to the Spuffy ship I’m all
I LOATHE the Spuffy ship, there was not one redeeming thing about it and if it died in the fires of hell for several thousand years it would still be better than it deserved.
It was both characters at their worst presented/written/behavior yet somehow we’re supposed to find it romantic. I normally loved Buffy but I hated her in this relationship and only bought it as a horrible side effect of her depression/self-loathing of the last couple seasons, which makes it impossible to root for in any way.
Then again, *this* is what it takes to beat out all those TVD ships I hate. And s4 D/E did give it a run for its money.
