Happy Mother's Day to all you mommies out there!

So yesterday wasn't a continuous parade of excitement, but I think it's been one of my best days in a while. I just lazed around the house, got ready for Mother's Day, and spent some quality time with the nephew and a pail of sidewalk chalk.

The Word 'Retard': Stop using It

I found this article very touching: a mother with a child who has cognitive delays spreading the word for people to stop using this offensive term, the people who get it, and the people who don't. Please, you all. Try not to be one of the people who don't.

One of the children at the daycare presented me with a book she'd got at her school's book fair for me. It was one of the Avatar: The Last Airbender mini-novels, summing up some of Book Two: Earth. No reason, she was just aware that I liked the show and chose to get the book for me. It helped with the rest of the day.

Well, at the end of every week I attempt to do something special and tie it into the curriculum. So, today, I had all the houses go through four challenges in a sort of tournament. In today's news, the power cut out and my alarm clock became nonfunctional. Fortunately, I seem to instinctively wake up at around 7:30AM-8:00AM, so the universe's attempts to make me late for work were foiled. Not that I'd mind. I think I really need a vacation. Tomorrow I go to the Renaissance Faire the first time this season, which for me shows the true arrival of fall.
