Happy Mother's Day to all you mommies out there!
So yesterday wasn't a continuous parade of excitement, but I think it's been one of my best days in a while. I just lazed around the house, got ready for Mother's Day, and spent some quality time with the nephew and a pail of sidewalk chalk.
The baby, it turns out, really loves spreading colors across the asphalt, but he likes doing it while he's sitting down. He grabs a handful of chalk- yellow, green, blue, and colors around where he sits, then moves and goes again. It's an expansive canvas.
He also likes to color on my leg. He draws on it in yellow chalk, then rubs it and calls it an 'owie'. This seems to be a medical procedure. At some point, he rubs chalk on his face, an adorable smear of blue, and I brush some purple on my forehead to match.
Around this point I lost hope in getting him inside looking the least bit presentable. He already decided to go barefoot like Titi Ivy, his creamsicle orange crocs are hanging around somewhere on the pavement, forgotten. He's getting chalk dust all over his pants and my pants and really, guys, this is so much fun.
Baby is pretty savvy about the camera, so I had to get into a lot of different locations to snap a good shot of him. I was trying to lie down and get an angle looking up at him, but when he saw Titi Ivy was lying down, he decided to lie down too. I told him to look at the camera and he gave me this huge, precious, goofy look. Oh, squishy. (Yes, his nickname is Squishy.)
Along with that, I think I pulled apart and put together the two Winnie the Pooh puzzles he has so many times I can do it with my eyes shut. It was a lazy, lovely latter part of the day. As for the rest, I woke up late, drove to the natural foods/health store and bought the stuff to make my own salt scrub with as a present for my mom and sis.
Sea Salt Scrub:
1 cup sea salt
1/4 cup sweet almond oil
1/4 cup grapeseed or olive oil
add essential oil to your preference (mine was two drops lemon, four drops lavender)
After that, I went walking in the forest, but forgot my camera. I have every intention of repeating the experience tomorrow, only armed with a camera this time. I haven't been walking on that trail in ages. It has past the spring beauties time, but there are small, white flowers out as well as the occasional violet. The woods are lush and green again, and the streams healthy from the recent bouts of rain. I saw a spring peeper staring at me from the creek when I crossed it, and little splashes as my footprints alarmed them. I was hoping to see a turtle, but didn't. Alas. I did, however, see flag lilies among the cattails.
Lovely, lovely lazy day. <3
