The last month has been pretty typical. Spring Break was good. I didn't go anywhere, so it was very much like the school term, but without teaching/grading duties.

Today, I dropped off half of the first-year graduate cohort at the airport. This gave me an opportunity to saunter down the peninsula and back to Santa Cruz, taking advantage of all the crap on the way.

I was just thinking about a particular episode of Sex in the City that really bothered me (entitled "Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl"). In the episode, Carie dates a bisexual man. I used to be fat. At least, I think I used to be fat. Old pictures of me show me as being kind of chubby, but nothing too fat. I have a memory of my doctor telling me that I was in the 98th percentile of weight for my height/age class. I think that means I was fat. Also, I have stretch marks. I haven't done much this week. I got sick on Monday, and that has kept me from doing much. I went to campus on Tuesday, but only for an hour to teach class---I went straight home afterwards. I was just talking to some Californians about Miss Suzy. It's a fascinating topic: a song in American culture that has no true codification. We learned it in school in the 80s and early 90s, before the internet. So, there was no way to truly verify what the "official" version of the Ms Suzy song was.
