Once upon a time, thousands of years ago, Mt. Vesuvius erupted, suffocating many citizens and then preserving their corpses with LAVA. Les, you were right - Naples is pretty foul. Perhaps it has more to do with the fact that the garbage men had been on a strike a week prior to our arrival or maybe that the city is torn up due to metro construction. Italy is the height of fashion. Mullets, pointy toed shoes, giant transparent sunglasses...Flourescent green is in now, as well as shirts brightly screen printed with wonderful American words and phrases, such as °Lady Queen” that make very little sense. Jason, you were right; Corfu is a gorgeous island. Getting there, however, was not so simple. Good God this place was gorgeous. There is a huge fortress over looking the town and a much older fortress - the one that the larger replaced like 700 years ago. Our Lonely Planet said there was 999 steps to the top but it was actually 906. One of us was bitching the whole way up ( Read more... )

Unfortunatly, we didn't have time to go to Delphi. It was also expensive by bus. Greece just got a terrific metro system, but it doesn't go everywhere yet. To get around, we had to go by bus most of the time - which really sucked ( Read more... )
