Unfortunatly, we didn't have time to go to Delphi. It was also expensive by bus. Greece just got a terrific metro system, but it doesn't go everywhere yet. To get around, we had to go by bus most of the time - which really sucked.
All and all, Athens was dirty, smelly, crowded and the people were rude. However, the ruins we're incredible! The feta was delicious and the espresso was great......I have yet to try it in Italy. More on Greek coffee later.
We went to the Temple of Poseidon instead of Delphi. I was pretty amazing. These ruins were out in the middle of nowhere on a small penisulla (sorry for the spelling...I'm in a hurry and this keyboard is not what I'm used to - examples....òàùè+ì). Lord Byron was so taken by this place, that he carved his name on one of the columns.....I took a picture. Its a shame, others noticed this and did the same....eventually they had to block it off becuause so many people were carving there names on it.
When we returned from the Temple....by bus of course, we hiked up Filapoppou Hill and watched the sun set over the city. I took some great pictures there too. There is a small ruin from Hadrian's day there. Got some great pictures of the Acropolis from there.
The hostel there was pretty fun, but it was a dorm. We met a Romanian/Candadian couple who was pretty interesting. She is a writer and he's a photographer. He recently came back from Iraq and took pictures there....had a lot to say.
