I still haven't had anything fired, it was pouring rain and the kiln is situated out doors, so firing anything last Friday wasn't an option.  But I did make a few things, these are kind of a departure for me:

My new semester of ceramics has begun, I am again taking Raku
(because I am crazy about the flashier glazes and intense colors), and I am continuing working on masks because nothing interests me as deeply as the human face:

My Raku class ends Dec 21st,
but the teacher is worried about having things pile up, so he asked that last Friday be our last day of new work, so I started three new masks...

Ceramics: American Raku
(obviously this is not traditional Japanese Raku, it is a low fire process which has been developing and is still developing)

I got my ceramics back from my 'clay vessels' class, and I'm not actually that disappointed with all of them, some of the tiles came out very well, but my bigger pieces were not very satisfying.

Here is a ceramic piece which is finally finished:
weeks ago I built this with a couple of slabs of clay, a round piece as the bottom, a long piece wrapped around the bottom and folded over to make the nose of my weird little head, but left rough enough to show how it was created, a strip added as a handle, and finally I added the weird little eyes ( Read more... )

Part of my 'yadda yadda yadda' had been St. John discovering Jane's true identity, helping her to get her inheritance, and admitting he and his sisters are her first cousins.  Consequently Jane is able to return to Thornfield in a much more dignified manner....
