disappointed

I got my ceramics back from my 'clay vessels' class, and I'm not actually that disappointed with all of them, some of the tiles came out very well, but my bigger pieces were not very satisfying.
Here you see a large hand built vase which was painted (with clay slip) with a very clear face

and here you see the same vase after it has been glazed and fired:
you can see that the 'clear' glaze was very opaque and ended up making the face disappear.  Also my attempts to drip the teal glaze from the inside to the outside only ended up making the roughness of the top edge more evident (of course filled with flowers that rough edge will not be important).  It is a large vase, about a foot tall, and I'm disappointed that the design is not easier to see.  Oh well, we live and learn.
I'll be taking Raku next and I understand that it will be easier to paint on my work in Raku because it is a low fire process.

edited to add:  oh I am a big old cheater (what can I say?) - I've used a sharpie to get some of the face back:

and I'm thinking I may find some glass paint to put it all back, after all: why should I live with disappointment?
