More drafting thoughts
I also noticed on closer inspection that there is more room in the bust because of the busk. The busk follows smoothly from the underbust to the apex and proceeds on that line making a larger pocket above the apexes. I didn't use a busk in the mock up, so I had no idea that this stabilization would make the front most pocket larger, necessitating ( Read more... ) -

I made a new corset from the brown narrow whale corduroy I mentioned in a earlier and finished the corset. When I put it on the first time I was disappointed to find that the bust shaping was All Wrong. Too large at the bust point and top edge, and allowing for droop into the area below the bust. I started work on another corset this week. I'm trying out a new fabric, little herringbone twill in chocolate with raspberry colored casings. The new technique I'm trying is single layer construction with applied boning casings over the seams. This will make it stretch more being only one layer, but will payoff with more comfortable smooth ( Read more... ) -

So the corset prototype went well enough. It was no stellar example of exacting sewing, but just to prototype the abdominal shape in the center front. Much improved. Must decided how to approach the skirt with only two yards to play with. I like the idea of a mermaid skirt, as it makes the hips in sharper contrast to the waist. But then a ( Read more... ) -

I just uploaded the turn able Langdon dress to my home machine! Now I can re- drape the skirt (if I have enough fabric) with the actual reference image! And the cornell site is now miles away more useful than it was before, as it has an entire section on draping. Apparently intended for studends and anyone else who stumbles along it. girliesquee, drafting
