Disclaimer: Devil Wears Prada, the book and the movie are owned by their respective producers. I am making no money from this foray into femslash fanfiction.
A/N: Once again, I labeled the sections as chapters though they are very short.
A/N: Also once again, this hasn’t been beta’d, so all mistakes are mine alone.
A/N: There is a lot of backstory here that isn't included. I might be able to be persuaded to put that into writing.
A/N: This deals with bondage and discipline. I am not in the lifestyle so it is probably all bull*, but know that the characters don't view themselves as being in the lifestyle. It applies to certain aspects of their personal lives so that they have an area where they may relax.
Emily pieced together the next 'scenes' that occurred in and regarding Miranda's office by talking to Andrea, Nigel, Nikita and Dianne.
When Serena opened the door to leave she found their way blocked by Nigel who was standing in front of it facing off against a security guard, the two assistants, and glaring at various clackers and coworkers who were hanging around hoping to see or hear something juicy for gossip.
In Miranda's office:
Nigel stood to the side as Serena led Emily out to fire the incautious gossip monger, then he entered as if walking into a minefield, closing the door behind him.
Dianne had seen Miranda standing close to Andrea with one hand on the younger woman's shoulder and the two women looked almost intimate. A quick calculation of odds found her assuming Nigel's post at the door. She dismissed the guard then hissed at Nikita, "If they're together do you really want to gossip about it?" Nikita joined her saying, "Either way, She pays our wages and runs the whole show. I know where I'd place my money."
Inside the office Nigel sighed as the door latched, but held his tongue until Miranda and Andrea were off the phone with the girls giving them a heads up that their relationship had been outed. "There's no way you two are going to be able to get back in the closet," he said. "So how are you going to handle it?"
"Monday is the New York Pops Birthday Gala. I'll actually take a date and we shall stay through the entirety of the event. That I do so will speak louder than words that I value my date's desires above my own." Miranda kissed a smiling Andrea on the cheek.
"What about the allegations that Six will be a kept woman advancing in her career due to her association with you?"
"Andréa, a card, please?" Andy produced a card from her messenger bag.
"Deena Cassandra Ash?" Nigel was a bit puzzled.
"Who is that writer who's appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, as well as the New York Times' Bestseller List as D. C. Ashe? The one that has written for Vogue, Elle, and Women's Wear Daily, but has turned down every request by Runway to appear within it's pages?"
Andrea laughed as Nigel's eyes almost popped out of his head.
"What do you need me to do?" Nigel told Emily when recounting this that he had known that Miranda and Andrea were seeing each other but they had managed to keep it quiet. Now their secret was going to have the doors blown off.
"Get Nikita in here." After he had done so she continued, "Take Andréa to the Closet. Find her clothes to work in, casual wear, and clothes to be seen both with me on dates and with my daughters or me and my daughters. She will need one or two weeks worth of clothes. Anything you choose will be ordered from the designer and purchased on my personal account. Nikita, you'll call and place the orders."
Andrea turned and whispered in Miranda's ear and the editor blushed. "I love you, too," she replied.
The brunette joined Nigel and Nikita as Miranda said, "That's all."
The majority of the rubberneckers had left when they emerged from Miranda's office. The trio's progress down the hall was accompanied by people fleeing back to their desk. Emily heard later that Andrea walked with such confidence that no one wished to be caught gawking, because, obviously Miranda approved of her presence.
Meanwhile, Serena and Emily were met by a security guard and an HR associate, and together they descended on the gossiping clacker.
"Mariella! Phone." Serena held out her hand. "Give it to me unlocked. Now!" she prompted as the woman hesitated.
"Serena, I…" The woman, tall, but still three inches shorter than her boss, glossy light brown hair framing a pale face that was almost ashen at this point, handed Serena her phone. The manager looked through it and confirmed that it was logged into the offending Twitter account.
"My office. Follow me." The brazillian led the way through the now silent office. Everywhere Emily looked people were huddled over their desks doing their best to keep from drawing attention to themselves. Mariella followed, her head bent. Once in the office the blonde pointed at a chair and said, "sit." Mariella complied immediately.
Serena nodded at Kelvin from HR who spoke. "Mariella, here is a folder tracing a Twitter account to you." The folder was handed to the woman. "Miranda has been aware of your association with the account for the last month. As the tweets have been, on the average, neutral in regards to the magazine she has chosen to ignore it. That you have commented upon her professional persona, though usually negative, has been overlooked."
Serena took over. "However, you crossed the line by insulting Miss Sachs and commenting upon their interaction. That moved from professional to personal for Miranda." Serena walked to stand before Mariella and cleared her throat so that the seated woman raised her eyes to one towering above her. "You made it personal, and for that, Mariella, you are fired."
"You may cry. You may grovel. But you will not keep your job. Be glad that policy gives you severence pay and that Miranda was amused by your comments over the last month. Miranda, Andy, and I have agreed. You will not be blacklisted."
At Mariella's request Kelvin and the security guard stepped out of the office while Emily closed the blinds. Mariella stood in front of Serena, hands clasped. "I apologize and am truly sorry for my actions. I allowed the spike in activity to dictate what I wrote and I was so stupid to do so."
"Too little, too late. You insulted Andy and Miranda will have a very hard time forgiving that." Lady S- was in evidence.
Mariella fell to her knees. "Please, Serena! I'll do anything." She was openly crying now. "If you were a guy I'd offer myself," she said softly while looking into the the taller woman's eyes. Her head bowed when there was no change of expression on the face of woman with whom she was pleading.
"Lilliana Davies. Use my name to get a meeting and tell her everything. If you are honest with her you may have a chance. She's a friend of Andy also, so she may be harsh, or she might not accept you, but it is a chance to redeem yourself." Serena used her extended index finger to raise her head. "It's time for you to leave. Clear out your desk and go."
Mariella left the office directly. Once the departing woman had closed the door Emily pounced on Serena. "When and where do you want me?" They kissed.
"Tonight, at my apartment."
