Back in the neigborhood
Came back for a visit. The old neighborhood looks swell. I see that finally tore down that empty bakery we used to hide in when we were kids. Also, they paved Grosvenor Street. There are kids skateboarding on it now, which you could never do when it was a mess of mud and gravel ( Read more... ) -

Very little should be taught as "fact" in school. Things should be taught as ideas based on hypotheses. Evidence supporting those hypotheses should be provided in stimulating ways, and students should be encouraged to think critically about the truth or non-truth of the hypothesis. Hacked?
Something weird happened with my account today. It wouldn't accept my password. So if I said something rude on your journal, it wasn't me -- although why anyone would want to hack this account is beyond me (I'm surprised anyone even reads it for that matter).
Anyway, I have changed the password, so all is well again. -
The cure for HIV
Pass a law that everyone born in 2013 or later can only have sexual contact with others born in 2013 or later. In cases of rape where the assailant's age is not known, do multiple cycles of STI screening on the victim, and mandate abstinence for one year ( Read more... ) -

There was an interesting interview on CBC this morning dealing with the trade in internal organs (you want a kidney, someone sells it to you etc.). I've always seen it as patently unethical, but on the other hand, if the transaction is between two adults of sound mind who am I to say they can't do it? I caught a glimpse of my tags out of the corner of my eye and I thought I saw one that said "buggery". Turned out it only said bigotry. Sigh. Just some old pedantic moralizing of mine from long ago.
