Very little should be taught as "fact" in school. Things should be taught as ideas based on hypotheses. Evidence supporting those hypotheses should be provided in stimulating ways, and students should be encouraged to think critically about the truth or non-truth of the hypothesis. Science is as wrong as creationism in its dogmatic insistence that it has the definitive answers. Different people strive for truth in different ways -- nobody owns it. As soon as some group attempts to enforce ownership of the truth -- that is when the truth is truly in jeopardy.
