There was an interesting interview on CBC this morning dealing with the trade in internal organs (you want a kidney, someone sells it to you etc.). I've always seen it as patently unethical, but on the other hand, if the transaction is between two adults of sound mind who am I to say they can't do it? It maed me realize that the core of the issue is not really about organs at all -- it's about inequity. What's unethical is that there are people in the world so destitute that they would actually agree to sell a piece of their body. We don't want them to sell their organs to us, but we are perfectly okay if they die of starvation. Put another way, if the world were an ethical place, organ selling would not be an issue because nobody would do it.
