The children have discovered fanfiction.net, they *beg* to be allowed online to finish reading fics, mostly in the Slayers (anime/manga) fandom. They clean their rooms and write acrostics and drabbles for me as a way to earn internet time.
Holly and her friend have challenged each other to write a songfic.
I'm not sure if I'm horrified or proud

Everywhere I go today there's an atmosphere of quiet astonishment. Part of that it undoubtedly due to the fact that in the middle of the coldest winter for several years it's not pleasant getting up to watch a 5am game.
