Geeky cruise for kids and their parents! Any other families want to join us on vacation next summer? :-)

Last month, we traveled with the kid and she happily slept in the hotel portable cribs and pack n plays, but it was clear that she was not going to fit in them much longer (I think she was already over the pack n play height limit, to be honest). I thought of this xkcd comic the other day when our dear daughter flung herself face first at the sofa and smashed her nose on a not-cushioned spot. There's nothing as worrisome as finding a small amount of cat puke.  That usually indicates that there is a larger pile that I just haven't found yet.  I've looked everywhere...twice.  I know it's out there, lurking, waiting for the perfect moment to appear when I least expect it.

Inspired by a comment thread over on Facebook, I've started thinking about where my family is from.  I don't actually remember how many generations back I need to go before I find an immigrant (all of my great-grandparents were born in the US), so my entire family tree has lived in the US for 100+ years and at least 4 generations (~350 yrs for one ( Read more... )

I'm in this strange lull between storms of busyness, it seems.  Last week was the last week of classes and my final is already written, so I'm twiddling my thumbs a bit until they take it.  After final grades are turned in, we've got a quick trip to the Bay Area planned for the ABL party followed immediately by a house-hunting trip to Michigan.  ( Read more... )
