Took myself to see the award winning Mr Turner yesterday. It is a long, quiet, enthralling biographical film, beautifully shot (presumably in a suitably Turneresque palette of colours) about the earthy and slightly bizarre later life of the famous English painter. Sometimes I almost wish that I was hooked on Downton Abbey, because then I'd have something to watch on the telly on a Sunday evening. Will it ever end? Didn’t see this in the cinema when it was released early December last year, but picked up and watched the dvd yesterday. Had deliberately not researched any background to the story beyond being already aware that the protagonists were the young writers of the Beat Generation - Ginsberg, Kerouac, Burroughs, and Carr.
