Blah, moving again
Blah, we got told to move on at the end of our lease, and luckily found a new place with the same real estate agent, and now have two houses about 5km apart.
It's nice to have a week to move our stuff, and be in a position to use a removalist, who'll do the bulk of the heavy stuff next Tuesday.

Media here has been saturated with coverage of the Victorian bushfires, which have claimed over 25 lives and hundreds of properties, with many more expected to be discovered over the coming days as the full extent of the damage becomes apparent.

First impressions of Linode
I find myself wondering why I didn't move my VMs to Linode years ago. I had a root shell on a fresh Ubuntu 8.10 VM within five minutes of signing up, and am blown away be the featureset, even to the point of being able to choose one of four data centres to house my box ( Read more... ) -
I wonder what 24x7x365 Online Support actually *means* to VPSLand
VPSLand have been great while I've not needed support, but having had issues doing a dist-upgrade last night resulting in segfault's, it seems a support ticket opened 10 hours ago with an urgent priority is yet to be answered.
Looks like I'll be moving VM suppliers again, this is reeking of the crap I put up with when with JVDS years ago.

Grr, talk about fragile machines, YZ's two month old MB just suddenly stopped working, won't power up, zilcho.
Guess it's time to battle the joys of the local Apple shop, fuck I hate them. At least we can book it in for a new case, given it's already started cracking around the front right bezel, just like my early c2d model has.

Summer is...
Spending all afternoon trying to rid oneself of the remnants of a rather nasty little bugger, the blue bottle.
A quick search shows that the vinegar and ice packs used to treat these stingers when I was a kid are now out of favour, and I have to agree that hot water certainly does seem to be the best cure, along with an ample dosage of Stingose.

Cancer and other serious illness is something not unknown in our family, I lost the cousin I grew up with closest in age to me at 14, and from my experiences with my grandparents passing on since this time, have to face the fact that I have real problems dealing with people who are seriously ill.
