Foraging
Shannon has gotten the foraging bug and has been out a couple of times hunting for food. This weekend we both went out and took a hike up Rattlesnake Canyon (where the Tea fire burned) looking for fire weed. Didn't find any, but the landscape is interesting nonetheless.

Surly Cross-check
My new Surly Cross Check in this season's hottest new color, "beef gravy brown." I've been for several rides so far, probably about 50 miles. The bike isn't exactly light (30 lbs) but it feels pretty quick. Wanted to post a few pictures before it gets all beat up and dirty. The rear hub is a Shimano Alfine, their new 8 speed internal hub. Breba figs
Breba figs are the first crop of figs that grow on last year's wood. They are unusually large and particularly good. I usually get about a half dozen brebas and then the much larger main crop of normal-sized fruit grows on the new wood and is ready in the late summer or early fall. That's a quarter for comparison.

CA Budget/Ted Strickland
I read in the LA Times this morning that the leaders of the California legislature got zero Republican in the Senate to vote for the compromise budget that the legislative leaders hammered out with the Governor. They only needed one vote to get it to pass, and they didn't get it. I don't like the budget. It raises taxes and cuts services. I don't ( Read more... ) -
