Chapter 6:

It had been slightly over a month and a half since Nino moved in with Jun, and Nino could not be any happier. Not only was he given enough food for the first time in his life, Jun was also extremely gentle with him. Not once did Jun make him think that the baby in him was more important than he was. Unlike his previous clients who would run their grubby fingers over his belly completely ignoring the disgusted Nino, Jun would caress his currently-flat stomach while smiling at Nino as though Nino was the most important person in his world.

“I was thinking of going out for dinner tonight,” said Jun, looking at Nino as though asking for his permission.

Nino froze for a split second before regaining his composure, “I can cook for myself,” he answered simply.

“That’s not what I meant,” replied Jun, tilting Nino’s chin up so that they were making eye contact, “I want to bring you out,”

Subconsciously, Nino bit his lips. He didn’t know what Jun was planning, but Nino was sure he wasn’t going to like it. According to social law, people like him weren’t allowed to mingle with the rest of the ‘normal’ men at the restaurants or shops. It was going to be social suicide for Jun should he be caught outside with Nino. As much as Nino wanted the world to know that he was Jun’s, he couldn’t bear to risk the taller man’s reputation like that. From what he heard from Jun, the designer was quite popular in town because of his gorgeous face and charming nature, in fact, Jun was hit on nearly every time he went shopping at the bazaar.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” said Nino at last, trying not to sound as dejected as he felt. After all, it would be too self-centered of him to jeopardize Jun’s future for his selfish desires.

“Oh…okay,” sighed Jun at last, getting up and walking over to his desk to continue with his designs, “But could you accompany me to the ink shop? I’m out of purple ink again,”

Nino nodded. The local ink shop was run by the Ohno family and they were probably the nicest people in town. They never thought of him as a lower class citizen and had always welcomed him with open arms every time Ohno brought him out to ‘borrow’ paints from his family’s shop.

That night, after finishing a lovely meal prepared by Nino (he insisted on doing Jun’s chores for him because that was the least he could do), Jun brought Nino out into town. Fortunately, it was quiet late at night and there were hardly anybody around, but despite that, Nino still walked a few paces behind Jun, making sure that there was enough distance between them to make it look like they weren’t together.

It was supposed to be the perfect ‘date’ for Nino. They were supposed to pop into the ink store where Nino would help Jun choose colors for his designs, before they would detour to the seaside and have a lovely stroll along the beach. That night, Nino was supposed to final know what romance felt like.

If only those bullies hadn’t showed up.

“Matsumoto-kun, don’t tell me…” gasped one of them exaggeratedly while pointing a finger at Nino as though he was some piece of garbage. Out of instinct, Nino was about to flee when Jun grabbed him around the wrist, standing his ground against the three thugs.

“He’s with me,” said Jun firmly, now glaring at those three as though daring them to take a step closer.

They dared to. Crowding around Jun and a trembling Nino, they smirked at them and continued, “You’re pretty, Matsumoto-kun, don’t waste your beautiful face on someone like him,”

“Yeah,” another added, reaching out his filthy hands, wanting to caress Jun’s face, “If you like to top, I’ll let you top me,”

Instinctively, Jun smacked the hand away. Seeing an opening, Jun grabbed Nino and fled. Unfortunately, Jun just wasn’t fast enough and Nino had a hard time catching up. Those thugs managed to corner the two, now much angrier that they were given the slip.

“I gave you a chance, Matsumoto,” snarled the ring leader, slowly approaching his prey, knowing very well that he had them cornered. The ring leader’s face was centimeters away from Jun’s. What occurred next happened so fast that Nino wasn’t sure how it happened.

Next thing he knew, he and Jun had burst through the door and crumbled onto their futons panting after running for god knows how long.

“Are you okay?” asked Jun, gently checking if Nino was hurt anywhere.

“I think so…” mumbled Nino weakly.

“Is….” Jun continued, staring at Nino’s stomach.

The smaller man ran a hand across his tummy. Nothing felt different or out of place so he nodded. Jun gave him a small smile as he wrapped his arms around Nino’s tiny frame, “You were right, I shouldn’t have brought you out, I’m sorry,”

Nino shook his head against the crook of Jun’s neck.

“Still, I’m sorry,” the designer added, tightening his embrace.

It was then when Nino was sure that Jun was the prince he had been hoping for, but was Jun willing to save him?
