Waking Up

Kim's sitting by a lake. 'The lake outside the bar' she knows instinctively. A dark haired woman sits next to her and puts her arm around her shoulder.
"Mom," She wraps her arms around her, "You're back."
Teri brushes the hair off her face but doesn't say anything.
"My memories of the bar...of things that happened here, they're real?"

Chris had been looking out window, watching the rain fall when she heard Kim move around in her sleep. She looks over briefly, expecting her to wake up but when she doesn't Chris goes back to looking out the window.

A few moments later she hears Kim crying. Getting up from the chair, Chris walks over.

"Kim? Kim, what's wrong?

She's curled up sobbing, having problems getting her breath but she doesn't care. She can't stop seeing that image.

Chris sits down at the end of the bed and lays a gentle hand on Kim's arm.

"Hey, Kim what's wrong? Talk to me."

But she doesn't answer. Her eyes are tightly shut.

"Mom, tell him it's okay to go, please..."

Nita's come up to check on Kim. She's a little unsure what to do -- if Kim's resting, she doesn't want to disturb her. . . She knocks and calls softly, "Kim?"

Chris opens the door to let in Nita.

Nita blinks and nods to Chris, then looks past her to Kim. "Kim?"

Jack had mentioned she'd been hurt, said she wasn't herself. . . but the red hair comes as a shock.

Kim's eyes are swollen and her face is still a little red.

She knows this dark haired girl in front of her.

"Nita?" Because she's dreamt of her, or she thought they were dreams, but they weren't dreams, they were memories.

Elaine has a tray, with tea and toast and juice on it. She balances it with one arm on her hip and knocks with the other.

Always practical, is our Elaine. She has an idea that Chris and Kim might be a little hungry by now.

Chris answers the door and lets Elaine in.

Kim looks up at the blonde haired woman.

"Good morn, Chris...Kim. I thought you both might be a little hungry...or at the least, thirsty, so I brought some things." She turns to Kim. "Hullo, Kim. Do you remember me?" She keeps her voice quiet and gentle.

Kim looks rather strange with red hair.

Her memories are returning. She doesn't remember everything but she knows her name. "Elaine?"

Chase has come back to check on her, see if she's okay. He thinks he hears someone crying, and knocks anxiously on the door.

Chris walks over and opens the door.

"Hi," she says and moves to let him in the room.

She looks at Kim with a small smile, "Chase is here."

Kim looks up at him. 'He's a traitor who betrayed everyone' a memory whispers in her mind. 'No, he was trying to change things and failed...' a competing one argues.

She holds her head in her hands.

Chase hangs back a little. This is what he'd been afraid of, that she wouldn't want him around, and he tries to conceal how much it hurts. "Kim?" he says uncertainly. "Kim, it's me."

Ryan stopped by Kim's room in the morning. He had come by last night but had received no answer. This morning he'd gone by Chris' room and found it empty.

He really just wants to talk to Chris, see her, and know that she's ok.

Ryan knocks on the door.

Chris gets up when she hears the sound of someone knocking. Half-asleep still she stumbles towards the door, hoping to open it before the noise wakes Kim up.

"Dad," she whispers when she opens the door. Chris wraps her arms around him and hugs him tight.

"Hey."

Ryan's a little surprised and a little worried by this reaction.

"Are you ok? What happened?"

Chris sighs and pulls back a little. She didn't really want to think about it all now but her father had probably spent the night worrying about her.

"Jack and Chase thought I had something to do with Kim's disappearance based on a dream Jack had and a burn on my wrist. While I was talking to them a door opened up and I told Jack that the door probably led to Kim, wherever she was, and to prove that I wasn't involved with anything I told him we should go through the door and find her."
