Waking Up

Kim's sitting by a lake. 'The lake outside the bar' she knows instinctively. A dark haired woman sits next to her and puts her arm around her shoulder.
"Mom," She wraps her arms around her, "You're back."
Teri brushes the hair off her face but doesn't say anything.
"My memories of the bar...of things that happened here, they're real?"

Ryan stopped by Kim's room in the morning. He had come by last night but had received no answer. This morning he'd gone by Chris' room and found it empty.

He really just wants to talk to Chris, see her, and know that she's ok.

Ryan knocks on the door.

Chris gets up when she hears the sound of someone knocking. Half-asleep still she stumbles towards the door, hoping to open it before the noise wakes Kim up.

"Dad," she whispers when she opens the door. Chris wraps her arms around him and hugs him tight.

"Hey."

Ryan's a little surprised and a little worried by this reaction.

"Are you ok? What happened?"

Chris sighs and pulls back a little. She didn't really want to think about it all now but her father had probably spent the night worrying about her.

"Jack and Chase thought I had something to do with Kim's disappearance based on a dream Jack had and a burn on my wrist. While I was talking to them a door opened up and I told Jack that the door probably led to Kim, wherever she was, and to prove that I wasn't involved with anything I told him we should go through the door and find her."

"Wait, you went with Jack when he thought you killed Kim?"

Chris nodded even though it was more of a rhetorical question. What he wanted to ask was, 'Are you insane?'

He peers into the room and sees Kim asleep on the bed.

"And she was being held by the Salazars?"

'What else was I supposed to do?' she thinks but doesn't say. Better to move away from this particular topic.

"Yeah. We were in an althernate universe of some sort. I'm not sure what was going on exactly but Ramon wanted her becuase he thought she had information on some money Jack took from him. Or something."

His mind skips over the "alternate universe" part, not ready to deal with it.

"Information. Did he... Is Kim ok?"

Chris nods.

"We got a healer for her. She was hurt pretty bad. Some broken fingers and a stab wound. She's ok now. Physically, at least."

Ryan leans against the doorway and rubs his forehead.

"Who else was with Salazar when you went in?"

[geeky_agent]

"Just one of his men. Jack killed both of them and we grabbed Kim and left."

[_chappy_]

"Ramon Salazar only had one of his men with him?"

That doesn't sound right at all.

[geeky_agent]

"The other men were outside. The police and CTU had the place surrounded. I guess they were killed in the shootout."

Chris thinks about telling him that he was alive in that dimension but she doesn't. She's not sure what the point would be.

"Are you sure you're ok," he says rubbing her arm.

"You weren't hurt were you?"

'I almost got my head blown off looking for you there,' she thinks but doesn't say. The thought strikes her as absurd and almost funny.

"No, I'm fine, Dad," she smiles a little.

"Just tired."

"I understand," he says gently.

The morning light bouncing off something by the chair catches Ryan's eye. He moves and looks a little closer.

"Where'd you get the gun?"

She blinks and it takes her a second to realize what it means.

"It's Jack's, he gave it to me when we entered the Salazar compound."

She walks over to get it and then hadns it to her father.

"Could you give it back to him. I forgot to do so last night."
