The Recital "You're going to be all right?' Louisa asked, fiddling with Adora's hair.
"Yes," Adora said, giving the woman she's come to know as a sister, on-stage and off, a smile and a nod. "I am going to be fine." All of a sudden, she had a sharp pain, settling down deep. Her family was leaving Central City without her. The company was moving on and she was starting a new chapter in her life.
Adora didn't know what was going to happen, and she was equally excited and terrified. She hadn't even told her parents yet, that the star ballerina was now unemployed and soon-to-be alone in the big city, with nothing but the contents of her suitcase.
"You'll keep in touch?" Louisa asked, trying to ignore the tear slipping down her cheek.
"I promise," Adora told her with a sad smile, using her own thumb to wipe away her dear friend's tear.
"Including every detail about your mysterious gentleman friend?" Louisa gave Adora a sly smirk. Adora wasn't even sure what Wyatt Cain was to her. She'd only known him for a few days and here she was, taking a tremendous leap of faith for someone who she might not even like after a few more days.
"What if there are no mysterious details?" Adora asked with matching smirk.
Louisa's face shifted into a glare. "He practically proposed to you with a hot dog. After only four hours of your company." She nodded to Adora and raised an eyebrow. "There will be details."
"Louisa," Ravi DeMilo called from the curb as the girls shared a laugh. The others had already said their goodbyes to Adora, and piled into the large vehicle. Adora gave Louisa another hug and waved to the faces watching her from the windows. Ravi stepped over and took a deep breath before giving her a nod. "I am going to miss your bright smile," he finally said, his voice catching slightly, "my Adorina."
"I'm going to miss our tea breaks," she told him quietly, trying to keep her own emotions calm. "Among many other things."
"Ahh," Ravi said, giving her a wink as he turned slightly. "I have made arrangements for that." He motioned to the other side of the theater's stage door, where the Mystic Man was standing, in discussion with a passer-by. "My dear friend has offered his services in caring for your welfare, in my stead." Giving her another nod, Ravi added: "He is a good man."
"I can't imagine you would call him friend, if he wasn't," Adora replied. Ravi laughed and nodded, once again.
At his wife's beckoning, Ravi turned slightly and acknowledged her. Looking back to Adora, Ravi simply held her face in his hands and kissed her forehead. "May Ozma protect you, my dear girl."
Adora sucked in a breath and nodded, forcing a smile as he pulled away and moved to the bus. She stepped back toward the building and gave another wave to the faces in the windows. After a few moments, the bus' engine rumbled to life and the vehicle pulled away. Adora clenched her hands together and watched as the bus grew smaller and, soon, was lost in the distance.
Glancing to the sky, she said a silent prayer. 'Dearest Ozma, give me strength...' At the sound of a clearing throat, Adora lowered his chin and opened her eyes. The Mystic Man had moved to her side and offered his arm.
"I have something to show you," he told her with a bright smile.
