I have been absent a brief while, and here is why. My younger son broke his arm, the humerus just below the shoulder, on Monday. This has been a week of ER visits, ortho clinic visits, adjustments at home and at work, text communication every-damn-where. He is currently in a half cast from his shoulder to below the elbow and wears a sling.

I don't think I can manage NaNo this year. I was hoping to use its discipline to jump start my writing again. The whole idea has curdled in the face of the current emotional trauma (which is ironic given that I started writing in response to emotional trauma!) In case you're wondering the whole thing is at 91290 words which is a decent amount, even with all the stuff that has to go, and more that has to be added, and even more that has to be fixed.

36773. Which is totally awesome and what's more, I filled in the gap! We're onto uncharted territory now (well, a very basic outline exists, large parts of which are doomed to be dropped) and I'm fighting the impulse to re-write bits of the climax scene (#1) to fit with what I wrote in the gap. Climax scene(#2) remains to be written.
