so here's what happened...

Nov 05, 2016 08:31

I have been absent a brief while, and here is why. My younger son broke his arm, the humerus just below the shoulder, on Monday. This has been a week of ER visits, ortho clinic visits, adjustments at home and at work, text communication every-damn-where. He is currently in a half cast from his shoulder to below the elbow and wears a sling.

But we're okay. He went to school this Friday, is down to minimal pain medication, is getting a brace next Friday which he will wear for another 3 weeks or so and then we'll see.

Meanwhile in other news, I am doing a stripped-down modified minimalist NaNo. I have committed only to writing every day. At least one complete sentence, every day of November, and hopefully beyond. I went back to work on The Death of Dreams because it so fit my current mood. There has been a lot of editing along with that one sentence so the word count has barely shifted. But five days in? Hanging in there.

Work has been incredibly accommodating, at least so far, as have I, coming in every day but one for at least a few hours. I did get out of Saturday work, but only because I finished up an experiment unexpectedly on Friday. Cool beans. I plan to cook and bake and finish, finally, my Charmed re-watch. Diverted to watching Season 18 of Midsomer Murders there for a bit. Also Supergirl (James Olsen you have CHANGED). I am down to the last episode before the Charmed series finale. Looking forward to it!

R is supposed to visit next weekend but that's now up in the air although becoming more likely as his proposed surgery has yet to be scheduled. I dread the visit rather than looking forward to it, which is so sad.

I am avoiding election news since my nerves can't take any more of this right now. I have voted, absentee, and that's it for me except the praying. I am worried about Turkey and still obsessing over Brexit.

You should all go read/listen to Polly Shulman's YA books about the New York Circulating Material Repository, beginning with The Grimm Legacy. They kept me sane the last couple of weeks. I am now listening to Master and Commander which I read eons ago, and reading Cakewalk by Rita Mae Brown. Gave up on a book today with annoying stupid protagonists, after having suffered through to the end of an audio-mystery with an annoying perfect protagonist. I mean, really, there is a whole genre of Mary Sue Mysteries out there. Blech.

That's it. I am going for a walk in the blessed cooler weather, then I am off to find velcro tennis shoes for my poor boy. He is coping brilliantly but there are some things you just can't do one-handed. This entry was originally posted at http://vjs2259.dreamwidth.org/405227.html. Please comment there using OpenID.
