skipping days

Nov 14, 2015 11:28

Thursday 11/12/15 count was 28109

Friday 11/13/15 count was 30,000(!)

Friday was awful work-wise and I'm still trying to catch up with the aftermath. In the afternoon I turned off my phone and went in to a friend's lab to help him set up my old injection rig, which I had arranged to have moved to his core facility before I left. Arranged it that is, it didn't actually get moved till months later. Anyway it's a mass of computer equipment, microscope equipment and more cords than you can count. All set up it is, although a little emotional to sit behind the machine that defined me for 12 years and turn everything on and then...nothing. I still miss it, a little.

Then I went to Barnes and Noble and drank Harney & Sons White Christmas tea and read Toby Daye on the Read in the Store program on my Nook. I stayed in town until late cause traffic and not wanting to go home.

So Colorado wants me to interview Thanksgiving week, during which I had planned to yank R and the kids over to my parents for the whole time and cook. No one seems to understand that compressing four days of preparation into one day of preparation might be a tad intimidating. I have lots of shortcuts for T'giving dinner but they do require me to be there. Well, not all of them. I can do a cut down dinner with lots of canned/boxed foods I guess. But I don't think I can haul prepared-ahead food and four people in a small SUV. *sigh* I certainly can't make pie in an airplane. Pretty sure there are TSA regs about that.

Then the following week I'm off to Memphis. This is all equals parts exciting and terrifying.

And if I get any reasonable offers out of these jaunts, then I get to tell my Kentucky job that it's fish or cut bait time.

And then I have decisions to make.

But hey! 30000 words! And I'm still in the gap. My god this book is all conversation! I'm thinking of sticking in some late night in the lab sex scenes with our psychologist doctor researcher guy and sexy flirty girl geek scientist gal, just to liven things up. I had considered an affair between estranged wife IT mom and psychologist doctor researcher guy, but it's not playing out that way. Somebody had better do something soon!

I read somewhere that if you're stuck in NaNo, have someone kick down a door. Then explain it. Who shall I have do the kicking?
