Back in mid-September, I started to get back into the writing habit after over a year of not writing much fiction at all. I'm paying more attention to open calls, and I've actually been asked to sub to a couple of "invitation-only" anthologies as well. Not a single post here in November, not even a book review. And I haven't signed in to lurk on others' pages either. I really need to work on this. I always enjoyed being here on LJ. Facebook, Twitter and my own website have someone taken over my online time so completely that I don't even sign in here anymore.

I think it is absolutely time to state some broad writing goals for this year.  I’ve been in a bit of a slump writing-wise since before the holidays, but am slowly coming out of it.

Work stuff has settled down slightly. I didn't do much today.  Slept in late.  Read a pile of comic books.  Finished reading Philip Jose Farmer's A Feast Unknown.  Read some more comic books. Reviews of the Farmer book and the graphic novel Solomon Kane: The Castle of the Devil are already up on my "visual bookshelf" on Facebook and will be cross-posted here tomorrow.

I did, actually, intentionally take the weekend off from almost the entire internet.  I did check email on Sunday afternoon briefly, but otherwise stayed away from Livejournal, Twitter, Facebook, and all of my usual other sites (Lostpedia, DrunkDuck, the other webcomics I read, etc.)

I ended up not going to see Morgyn play soccer this morning -- by the time I got moving, Margaret had text-messaged me that the game was not where she thought it was.  So instead, I got motivated, headed down to Borders, and spent who know how long (probably about an hour, but I lost track) composing the 1,026 words that finished off Chapter 13 of ( Read more... )

Today's practice session went fairly well.  Of course, I am harder on myself than anyone else is.  Most of the other instructors comprising my "class" have been teaching the subject for 8 years or more, so of course I'm not going to be able to field every curveball they through me ... but of course every pitch I bobble aggravates me.
