Dec 17, 2012 10:06

Recently Completed

* "Shapes and Stones," Length: app. 36k. SF novella. Sent off to Crossed Genres' open call for their upcoming "Winter Well" anthology of stories about older female characters.   Received rejection letter on December 16th.

* "Chasing Satellites,"  Length: app. 4.5k. SF short. Submitted to Bryan Thomas Schmidt for "Beyond The Sun" anthology of space colonization stories.

* "So Much Loss," Length: app. 9k (Tentative title was "Your Ghost Passing By" ). Horror (with Wold-Newton aspects).  Submitted to Steve Berman's "Suffered From The Night: Queering Bram Stoker's Dracula" anthology.

* This year's holiday card poem, app. 100 words. Going out in the mail this week to everyone who is interested. (If you'd like to be on the mailing list, make sure I have your physical mailing address.)

Works In Progress

* "Cold Weather, Tap Water" Goal: 6 to 10k. Intended for Steve Berman's open call for "Thy Dark Eye Glances: Queering Edgar Allan Poe." Deadline coming up at end of month. Progress: app 2k written.

* "Thumbsucker," app 2.5k. This is an older story of mine that I'm in the process of revising after constructive feedback from a rejection. Back from critique group and ready for rewriting.

Works In "Limbo"
* "Ambergrin Hall," my long-stalled mystery novel, which I know paragraphs wishes I would hurry up and finish. It really needs just a few more chapters. I have been considering taking certain parts of the book (the prologue, for one) and sending them out as shorts/novellas. I'd value input from my writer friends on the value vs. pitfalls of sending out "novel excerpts." Pitched this via Twitter to David Rozansky at Flying Pen Press last night, and he's interested in taking a look at it. Have to put a presentation together and send it off.

* "Christmas Ghosts," my YA Christmas story, also long-stalled.

* "Silver Bullets For A Little Angel," a one-act play of mine (never produced) that I'm reworking as a short story. Originally thought to aim it at Steve Berman's "Bad Seed" anthology about evil children, but Steve had a full TOC so it's on the back-burner.

Upcoming

* A story intended for Crossed Genre's open call for "Oomph," stories about super-heroes with extremely limited abilities. Goal: 3 to 6k, tentative title "Almost Hero."
