took the weekend off

I did, actually, intentionally take the weekend off from almost the entire internet.  I did check email on Sunday afternoon briefly, but otherwise stayed away from Livejournal, Twitter, Facebook, and all of my usual other sites (Lostpedia, DrunkDuck, the other webcomics I read, etc.)

I can't say I got anything accomplished.  A little bit of laundry and watching The Tony Awards (Neil Patrick Harris did a great job hosting, and that closing credits musical number was hysterical).

Friday night I did get a good 1500 words written on "Ambergrin" and got past another temporary writer's block.  Also finished reading the book I just posted a review of, Max Allan Collins' "Deadly Beloved."

Saturday I was at Scott and Margaret's for Jared's birthday barbecue.  Had a good time.  Stayed late, played Munchkin again, came home with a raging headache and slept most of Sunday away.

Worked today, came home and did laundry while watching Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut.  I should post my thoughts on that here at some point, but I've gotten distracted again with AIM open and such.

Got some nice gifts this past week or so: Jim and Liz gave me Jim's old Garman GPS system when I visited them in Kenosha (which definitely made the trip from Chicago to Cincinnati via Louisville to see Nephew Matt less stressful).  Scott gave me an old painting of his, a dark vampire piece, that I admired while it was hanging in his basement studio (now I just need to figure out how to nicely but inexpensively frame it and hang it).  My boss gave me a nice bookshelf today with the promise of another sometime soon (now I need to rearrange stuff in the office to make it fit).  And Chloe noticed I was away from AIM and Facebook all weekend, and subtly inquired as to whether I was okay, which was a nice little gift in itself.

I am in a Superman phase, it seems.  I am rereading both of Elliot S! Maggin's 1978-79 Superman novels ("Last Son of Krypton" and "Miracle Monday," neither of which have anything to do with the first two Superman films despite the cover marketing), I watched that Donner Cut tonight, and I have a book about Superman co-creator Joe Schuster sitting on the shelf as well.
