I wanted to let my friends know that my mom Anne died on May 5. She was at home with my Dad and family members. They had been married over 66 years. She had been diagnosed with lung cancer in August and was on Hospice. I just got the news on Wednesday that my mother's brother in California died of liver cancer on Tuesday. He had only been diagnosed two weeks before and they gave him five months to live. Doctors don't know everything- he only lasted two weeks. What a spring this has been ( Read more... )

I just found out that my best friend's mother died on Wednesday - the wake will be on Sunday and the funeral on Monday. This is so sad. She was a sweet lady and had been having health problems and she too seemed to be getting better.Who's next?

I sit at the computer at the firehouse (during our annual meeting) thinking about my day. The wake and funeral were beautiful but I have that tense feeling that means I am not coping too well and expect I will start to feel the sadness in quiet moments during the days ahead. I've taken off the rest of the week to be there for Bob and his siblings. They are camped out at Moms trying to make her comfortable. Her death is getting close, her respirations are getting shallower, but she still doesn't want any pills to make her more comfortable ( Read more... )

My mother in law had a massive stroke yesterday. She is unresponsive verbally and is drooping on the right side. It is so hard to see her like this! The troops ( her family) have rallied and are coming in to stay with her day and night. I went over yesterday night to say my goodbyes. Kathleen stayed over until 4:00 a.m. and Bob went over then.
