My leg is making good progress and last Sunday I managed to do my first bit of gardening in months!

Saturday it was a wash-out but yesterday the weather behaved itself and followed the weather forecast to the letter: sun between 9 am and 4 pm and then rain.
We went to our local garden shop and café’ before lunch and we purchased a very small spruce to plant outside in a pot. It will be our Christmas tree!

The rain stopped at around lunchtime and I went out in the garden to work on some of the pots: I lifted the dahlias and chocolate cosmos, and planted the bulbs.

Even with the rain and winter approaching, you can still find some colour and beauty.

The weather has been glorious for the last 7 days and yesterday I spent a large part of the day outside doing the pots in the drive ('lifting' the bulbs and putting in the dahlias - which I had started off in a small greenhouse, and some seedlings).

Both yesterday and today we did a bit of pottering in the garden, mainly getting it ready for winter.
Bye bye dahlias (now resting in wood shaving filled boxes), hello wallflowers and bulbs!

On both days, we had some sun but also showers. And today, there was even a rainbow!

Sim threw a great party last night to celebrate her 40th (pictures to follow) and so this morning we were all rather tired.

I got up at about 8:30 am and, as I saw that the sun was shining, I decided to assemble a mini-greenhouse that I bought a few weeks ago.
It'll stand in the gazebo and will be used for the seedlings.

This week-end we held two readings of " Lady Bountiful's Drawing Room Mystery": now we have found neighbours to play all the 10 characters (and our dearest friend David will be the inspector - we thought it would be good to bring somebody in from the 'outside world' to play the sleuth ( Read more... )

I was lazy this morning but have been very busy all afternoon and evening.

As the weather was nice for a change, we pruned the Albertine rose, the clematis and the pyracanthia (ouch, all those long thorns!)

Tomorrow we are having some friends/neighbours round for lunch, and so I've made ice-cream:
