The long week-end

It was great to have a long week-end and to have 3 days of mainly sunny weather (it could have been warmer and less windy but let's not be picky! LOL!)

On Saturday we went on a local 'Heritage Walk' organised as part of the annual Penge Festival; we didn't see anything new but it was still fairly interesting. The walk started at and ended at the Alexandra Nurseries; we had tea and cake and used the 10% discount for the participants to buy a few more plants.
Also I learned that a lady was interested in one of Pablo's photos with a different mount. The mounting was done last night.

As we were then in the mood for shopping we went up the High Street to Homebase where we purchased a few bedding plants (lobelias, snapdragons, petunias) and 3 more pots.
We were not in there long but when we came out and walked down the High Street, there were a number of people standing on the opposite pavement, a police car and an ambulance. And there was a body on the pavement.
In the couple of minutes it took to walk down, another 3 or 4 police cars and another ambulance arrived, and a helicopter was trying to find a spot to land.

According the local News Shopper paper, a woman killed herself by jumping from her flat. How sad.

We spent most of Sunday (from about 11:30 am to 8:30 pm) in the garden and despite being in the sun for less than a couple of hours, I got sunburnt on my bald head and neck.
It was exhausting work: I removed the bulbs from all the pots, and planted dahlias and lilies, and a number of seedlings and bedding plants. I think I did 22 pots, large and small.

Here are a couple of very cheerful poppies from the garden:

On Monday morning I collected my prescription glasses and then spent a couple of hours in the afternoon in an establishment of a dubious nature in Vauxhall while poor Adrian was doing more gardening (it was his turn to get sunburnt! lol)

And yesterday the weather turned grey and rainy. I'm really grateful for the sunshine at the week-end.

gardening, bank holiday, penge
