Chapter 17: Jealousy
Heechul walked away from the classroom. He knew he had to get out of there before he did something stupid but he didn’t know where to go.
Once he left the school, he aimlessly wandered the streets trying to clear his head.
He was bothered by the fact that he felt angry at Yunho for talking to Jaejoong and making Jaejoong smile. He was angry that he wasn’t the one that had made Jaejoong smile.
He couldn’t pinpoint the feeling he felt but it made him feel like he was not playing the role as Yunho’s best friend.
“What’s wrong with me?!” screamed Heechul as he brought his hand up to ruffle his red-brown hair.
“Shouldn’t I be feeling happy for Yunho?”
He knew he should be but he couldn’t quite bring himself to be happy as he remembered the look Jaejoong had on his face as his head was inches away from Yunho’s.
He couldn’t forget how unguarded Yunho’s eyes were as they stared straight into Jaejoong’s.
Heechul had not seen Yunho talk so openly with someone in a long time.
When he saw Yunho talking to Jaejoong, he could tell that Yunho had not been pretending to care. Yunho was no longer playing Jung Yunho, the perfect guy.
He was just like the little boy Heechul had met in the park 15 years ago; the little boy who had been so full of trust and so willing to believe if you just told him too; the little boy who openly expressed his feelings.
The Yunho Heechul had seen talking to Jaejoong, was not hiding behind his usual mask of false emotions and smiles. He was not pretending that he lived the perfect life, when in fact he was lost and afraid to trust.
The Yunho Heechul had just seen was just being himself.
'Why was Yunho sitting so close to Jae? Why did his eyes have such a longing…?' but before he could finish, he realized, 'Yunho’s in love with Jaejoong!'
Seeing Yunho find someone he wanted to trust was a good thing yet Heechul wasn’t smiling.
'Why can’t I just feel happy for my best friend?' Heechul questioned himself yet he couldn’t erase the memory of the scene he had just witnessed.
Seeing Yunho’s hand on top of Jaejoong’s made him want to be the one holding Jaejoong’s hand. He wanted to be the one that gave Jaejoong warmth.
Heechul felt disappointed in himself for the feeling stirring in his heart that did not allow him to be happy for his friend. He would’ve been if the person Yunho had been talking too had not been Jaejoong.
The same Jaejoong he had bought breakfast for.
The same Jaejoong that made his heart beat faster whenever their eyes met.
The same Jaejoong that held him prisoner with those eyes that longed for a hand to hold on to.
The same Jaejoong that he so desperately wanted to protect because he felt that Jaejoong seemed so fragile and lost.
The same Jaejoong that he wanted to hold and embrace and Somehow he had fallen in love with the same person his best friend had. never let go.
“Is this what jealously feels like?” Heechul quietly whispered to himself.
