Last night was our holiday concert for Regular Band. I wasn't sure what to expect since normally our concerts are on Sundays; a Friday night is really rare. Saturday. Concert time. Our call time wasn't until 1:30; I left about 12:30 so I'd have plenty of time to get there and run through Stars & Stripes a couple times and what have you. Our fall concert was yesterday, which is super unusual; our concerts tend to be on Sunday afternoons. As such, it seemed to be sparsely attended compared to normal, but at least people did turn out. This was going to be a slightly different show. Our regular emcee was off this week, so flute D's son took over. Our theme was based on winners, meaning of various awards and even sporting competitions, given that we performed the Olympic TV theme. It's John Williams; he composes for everything. This week's theme was travel the USA with Sousa, since you can't spell Sousa without USA. That meant a Sousa-heavy program, but not with his regular tunes. There were a couple obscure marches of his included this week, but they fit the theme, with north and south names. This past concert was one that was scheduled for last year but got canceled, thanks to the poor air quality that pushed back our Fourth of July concert.
