Our first concert of the new era was this past Thursday. For three years now we've had a pretty standard situation--the guest band gets the big band room; we get some of the smaller rooms downstairs. Yesterday was my dad's birthday. He's a fan of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting; he still talks about going to Marie Callender's after my college band concerts and getting their seven-layer cake for dessert. Being his birthday, and liking food, mom wanted to get him cake ( Read more... )

It's a week late, but mom and grandma celebrated their birthdays together yesterday. Grandma loves the casino and it's one of the few places she cares to visit anymore. She also requested that mom come pick her up. Mom didn't care for that but I'm certainly glad to hear it. Just because she's cleared to drive doesn't mean she should really do it. ( Read more... )

My mom's birthday was Sunday and she is now 70. That blows her mind. I get it; that's a long time to be on this earth. And she doesn't seem like she's 70, either. I spent last week hopped up on Dayquil and in addition to being tired and feeling stressed (like honestly, I could feel my heart straining a bit), I had a bit of brain fog.
