A wonderful light and soaking rain most of last night and continuing today. It has been drier than our usual dry spring and everything was brown and parched. Today you can almost sit and watch things greening up! Temps are around 80, maybe even a little lower and a sunless sky. There is a large Ear Tree (Enterolobium cyclocarpum) on the back property line. It is a beautiful tree year round; dense with bright green leaves in the summertime, and in the winter months I love the distinct sharpness of the bare branches against the skies. As you know, I went to Robinson Preserve on Wednesday for my first big bike ride. I rested on Thursday, and then went back again on Friday, this time at 6:30 a.m! I had to make a quick trip to the Island this morning. I left about 8:00, but because of DST it was still dark out. I swung by the Botanical Park and they had just opened their gates. This morning as we were eating breakfast, Pete, who was facing the front yard, saw a hawk land out by the road. This was about 125 feet away from our front window. I grabbed my camera and took these pictures from the front window. He stayed on the ground about five minutes, then flew to a nearby tree. We thought he had something on the ground ( Read more... )
