Yesterday was Day 4 of the Black & White Photo Challenge. Here's my picture called "Lily Pond." I put a larger version of it behind the cut at the end of my post.
With our small drop in temperature, we have noticed more bird activity in the back yard and especially around the bird feeders. Pete and I were watching so many birds fly in and out this morning when suddenly our resident Red Shouldered Hawk (edited ID on the hawk--It is a Sharp Shinned Hawk) flew in and landed on one of the benches at the fire pit. All the birds disappeared and warning calls could be heard from them all over the place, but one of our squirrels who hangs out at the feeder, too, stood his ground on top of the wood pile. For about five minutes we watched and I got my camera and took a few pictures from inside the house. The hawk finally flew away, and the squirrel stayed for a few minutes more. After about 10 more minutes, the birds all came back to the feeder. Each of these elements, the bench, the feeder and the woodpile are about 10 feet away from each other.
I was taking these from inside the house through window glass and the outside screen.
